nagging questions since upgrade to 4x

I am still feeling a bit lost since the upgrade to 4x. I have some questions that I am hoping I can get some clarification on:

      1) After the upgrade, the only contributor that was listed on each article was the person who did the install. All of the other contributors were gone. Is that lost forever? I removed my contributor list because it didn't make any sense to have an unknown user as the only contributor in my wiki.

We are really missing the part that shows who created the article and who was the last one who edited it. I am sad that this info seems to be missing with the upgrade. I see that in the history you can see who edited it last but I liked it when it showed on the article for all to see.

      2) By this point in time, I feel like we have images scattered all over the place, which I think is mostly my fault. But I do know there were also some changes in the way they are stored now. I am assuming there is no easy way to try to go back and centralize all of those images, correct?

      3) What does the section for URL conflicts do? I see that I have a conflict but I have no idea what should be done with that, if anything?

and just because I am impatient:

      4) I see that some items I was hoping for are showing as done for the next release. Is there somewhere that I am not seeing that will show me when the next release might be so that I can look forward to these new "switches" that are being added? (like the RSS feed and the Subscribe button etc)

      5) I know there was something else but I seem to have lost it in the shuffle of my brain cells. Old age will do that to you, I tellya.

      1) It's unclear why this might happen. Are the other contributors listed on the history page? If not, as long as you have a backup of your old VW3 install, or you haven't removed it yet, then the data can be recovered. We would have to look into what possibly went wrong.

      2) If you are storing all those images in different areas, then the only way to "centralize" them would be to visit each one and move them to a new area. You can view all images you have, regardless of where they are saved, in the Special:FileList page.

      3) Sometimes after you import content, or if VaultWiki hiccups, it might be possible that you have 2 pages that are fighting for the same URL. Obviously you would only be able to visit one of them. The URL Conflicts tool lets you identify those cases and deal with them.

      4) New releases are announced in our News tab. You can subscribe to our RSS feed there, or you can follow @VaultWiki on Twitter.

      1) yes, they are still on the history of edits. If we were able to bring that back, is there any way to get rid of the username the installer used?

      2) how do I access the Special:filelist page?

      3) My conflict says it is 'USL-thumb.jpg'...what does that mean?

      4) thanks!

      1) If they are on the history, then the data is there, but it's not showing for some reason. I'll have a look and try to figure out what's going on.

      2) You should be able to just change the 'title' parameter of your wiki URLs to Special:FileList to get to it. If you have pretty URLs, it would normally be /wiki/Special:FileList

      3) Click on the edit icon next to 'USL-thumb.jpg' and it should give you more information. You might also want to try visiting it and see what comes up, in case the details seem like clones.

      1) Thank you for looking at it. I had turned off the contributors area but have now turned it back on so that you can see what it looks like

      2) I guess I do not have pretty URLS or even know what they are, because I was not able to come up with the list by using the URL sample you provided me (or any combination thereof)

      3) I had clicked on the edit, but what it says is not anything I understand. It says:

      Edit Conflicting Nodes
Two or more content nodes in the wiki have the same URL. Since only the first version will be visible, you should modify the live node to reflect the content of all the nodes, rename some of them, or remove them

Then it asks me about deleting them but being as I would have no idea what I am deleting, I was not about to try that without understanding it.

update to 2) I think I figured out how to access that but what I got was this:

A wiki node with the title Special:FileList could not be found. Please check the URL and try again or return to the wiki index. .

      1) I cannot actually find an issue with the contributors list. For every page I checked, all the names in the History tab are listed in that contributors list. It will list 'test' because I did make some edits, and some pages were created by me when I did the upgrade. In some cases, I copied and pasted text from one page to another, which might be a source of confusion.

      2) Sorry for the confusion, it looks like we didn't get around to renaming this as FileList: /showwiki.php?title=Special:ImageList
It looks like this page can be improved - it doesn't seem to use thumbnails, and the file size is not properly formatted.

      3) That's odd. The description is sort of misleading. I think it was just pasted from the same tool in VW3.
It looks like this page can also be improved - for images it should show a thumbnail, file type, and file size. That would be much more useful in deciding which one to keep.

      1) YES, they are in the history tab, but they do not show on the page themselves. They show NEW contributors but not who has contributed in the past. So the first page just shows me and the pages you did just show you. But not all the people who have worked on them in the past.

      2) Got it now, thanks.

      3) Does that mean I should just leave it alone and not do anything with it?

and I remembered another one, so this would be a new question 5:

      5) the BB code used to recognize cellspacing and padding and it does not anymore. I had also, maybe?, remembered that we could add our own BB codes but now I do not see a place to do that.

      1) For me, the first page (just clicking Wiki in the navbar), shows "Jackie, test". If I go to the history tab, the only people there are Jackie and test. Is there another page you're referring to? If so, please link.

      3) Leave it alone at least until the next update. I have already added some code so it shows more information about conflicts with images.

      5) The cellspacing and cellpadding parameters really haven't had any effect since vBulletin 4. In previous versions of VaultWiki, they were actually affected by vBulletin's reset CSS in posts which applies:
      Code:
      padding: 0.5em
We opted not to apply any of that CSS file to VaultWiki contents in newer versions, because particularly for tables, it led to unexpected style behaviors. However, if you have come to expect some of this behavior, you can apply the following to your additional.css to get the default padding back:
      Code:
      .vw-content td, .vw-content th { padding: 0.5em; }

      1) it seems like they are all there now.... I looked earlier and could not find them. So I guess this is ok. Is there really no way to get rid of the test name? I guess if not I just have to turn off the contributors again.

      3) ok will do

      5) I guess I did not explain myself very well, I am not talking about in the stylesheets, I am talking about tables and padding in the articles. I have a border on my main page that used to have spacing and padding. It no longer recognizes it. The code is still there, in my article, it just does not translate onto the page.

      back to:

      1) If I changed the username, would the new username show up as the contributor? Meaning it would no longer be test? I could have just tried it but saw you were logged in and didn't want to bump you out if you were still looking at something.

      1) I just answered my own question when I saw you were no longer online. If you need to get into my wiki, you new login name is at the bottom of the main page in the contributor list...you'll know which one it is.

If you look at the HTML output of the page, it is there too. The cause of the problem is the CSS issue I discussed above.

As for making custom BB-Codes, you can make BB-Codes for Prefixes, not areas. But I think there is a bug in Gamma 4 (the current release) where it doesn't actually save if you try to modify the prefix's BB-Code.

In VW3, a prefix and an area was the same thing (namespace), but in the new version we separated it to give users more freedom about how their articles are named.
