      Are namespaces categories?

      Hi,

I've just installed the Premium Version:

      http://www.straightrazorplace.com/forums/srp-wiki/

And I'm working on getting my brain around how it functions.. And it looks like namespaces are categories? Is that correct?

So for example, if I wanted Categories in the Wiki for shaving and restoration, and I would make namespaces for those two options?

      Thanks
      David

No, namespaces are namespaces... sets of broadly related content, that's how wikis work. The categories add on adds category functionality which is more granular and detailed.

You could however add sub-namespaces to do what you are after too, but that would work in a slightly different and broader way.

so namespaces are kind of like forums and sub forums? is that right?

so for instance on a game site, i could have "consoles" as a top forum and then within that forum i could have "xbox", and "playstation" as subforums.....

so i presume i could link to them in the wiki like this:

      ?title=consoles:articleXXXX

      and in the sub namespaces:
      ?title=xbox:ArticleXXXXX

      etc.

is that right or have i got the wrong end of things here?
If that's right, what are the limitations on the sub namespaces?

You are correct except that the sub-namespaces do not get added to the URL. You would use "consoles:" all the way down the hierarchy.

This should be a bit clearer in the next build when we implement a Namespace Manager.
