The wiki index is mainly just a landing page and starting location for users who find themselves in the wiki. However, the main structure of the wiki comes from containers called areas that are usually listed on the index.
Wiki areas perform a number of functions, including providing a hierarchy for the wiki, sandboxing user permissions, and containing wiki articles and other wiki content.
Since wiki areas are so important, only administrators can create new ones and modify their titles. This is accomplished via the Area Manager in the wiki's Admin Panel.
However, users may still be able to edit the description text for an area, and they can usually create new wiki pages within that area.
Ideas: If you can edit the area, it is a good idea to add an introduction and some links to important articles in the area. This will give users a sense of what this particular area is about and what kinds of articles can be found here.
