headline section edit links only visible on third headline

Maybe I'm missing something here. Why does the section edit link only show up on the third headline I create and every one after but not the first and second headline. Should it not be visible on every headline [H=2]? Sorry if this has been asked before but I can't find an answer anywhere.

There is nothing wrong with the code you have posted, as seen here: https://www.vaultwiki.org/demo/Third-Headline
That may not be the complete code: either you selected only part of the article, the Template "Help" contains unclosed BB-Code tags, or you are viewing the WYSIWYG version of the text and are not showing all of the code present.

In order to isolate headline tags for editing, they cannot be surrounded by any open BB-Code tags. We used to allow this, but if you tried editing, the results didn't make sense. Now we just turn off editing for that section if it's likely to be malformed. Instead, if you want to add extra markup to the headline tag, put it entirely inside the headline tags.

Ahhh, thanks pegasus. I was going crazy trying to figure that out. It was the WYSIWYG version as you said. There were some align left [left] things in there that shouldn't have been in there and a couple of [size] tags that didn't belong. Removed those and all is well.
