      Importing MediaWiki Tables

      Hello, first post here.

I've been a long time user of MediaWiki but I've been aware of VaultWiki for a while. I'm strongly considering purchasing the premium version for my website.

My MediaWiki pages are full of tables. I understand that MediaWiki pages can be imported into VaultWiki. Given that the table structures differ between the two, is the import of tables automatic or will each table have to be restructured with the tags? This is probably the single largest issue I would have with making the change as I have literally hundreds of tables containing information that covers information for 6 New England states.

      Thanks in advance.

The table structure is actually the same between MediaWiki and VaultWiki. MediaWiki and vBulletin tables are different. However, a problem arises if you want to use both vBulletin tables and MediaWiki tables. You would have to pick one or the other in the options.

In order to fully support your MediaWiki tables, you would need to:
      • enable the TABLE BB-Code in VaultWiki's Wiki Code Manager (which in turn disables vBulletin's table code)
      • add any CSS your tables use to VaultWiki's stylesheets
      • add the CSS classes your tables use to a whitelist via plugin

While we could update the importer to restructure MediaWiki tags automatically IF you actually need vBulletin's tables, I don't think this will be done very soon as we are working on a major point release right now. If this is needed it could be applied upon request during a Professional Import service.

Thanks for the quick response. It actually looks like it might be easier to use vBulletin's tables. But I think what I'm reading in your response indicates that if I did I'd have to manually redo each table. Sorry to ask what may be "stupid" questions, but the only Wiki editing I'm familiar with is MediaWiki. I did try one of your demo pages and found it very easy to adjust to. But, if I'm going to have to manually do each table in order to have future edits use vBulletin tables it's going to be tough. I'm also guessing that choosing MediaWiki tables would have effects on vBulletin beyond VaultWiki. I'm not sure that matters much as I don't use tables anywhere else in vBulletin; just trying to wrap what's left of my brain around this.

My apologies if these topics have been broached already; if they're on this site I was using the wrong search criteria.

      Thanks again.
