Image Storage Type?

I've been checking through settings, and I've been checking all over the site, but can't find a definitive answer to this question:

Does the wiki store all the images in the database, and is there an option to change this to the file system?

I can't remember if I had to set this somewhere in the early days, or not, but I know some other attachments types I had to move over from the database to the file system after upgrading to vB4, and can't work out if the same has happened between VaultWiki 2.5 and 3.0?

VaultWiki does not "store" any images. It uses vBulletin's existing attachment system and just makes the attachments more accessible and usable to the wiki editor. So wherever vBulletin is set to save your attachments is where the images are.

Thanks pegasus. I should have realised. I've been trying to figure out where 25MB of my compressed database has come from since the upgrade to vB4, and wondered if it was this, but now that answers the question.

The vBulletin 4 attachment system has at least twice as many database records as vBulletin 3's. Several indexes were added to the already large post table in vBulletin 4. But, language support required some additional data in VaultWiki 3 Beta 5. A lot of other small changes too. Don't think anything on its own adds that much, but together I can see getting another 25 MB.

The vBulletin 4 attachment system

It's almost embarrassing how hard it is to attach a .jpg to a post in vB4.

I wouldn't say that it's hard to add a .jpg. It just requires 2 more clicks than it used to. It could be reduced to what it was if they merged the "Add Files" popup back into the Manage Attachments window, rather than making you open it separately.

In vBulletin 4:

1. Press "Manage Attachments"
2. Click "+ Add Files".
3. If you're uploading from a web site, click "Web Site", otherwise just click "Select Files".
4. Then Browse to the image.
5. Click "Upload Files".

Compare to vBulletin 3:

1. Press "Manage Attachments"
2. Click "Browse..."
3. Browse to the image.

I find it easier to be able to add more files in one go with this manager than it was before.

Been having problems with this myself uploading images..... every time I uploaded an image it would add two dots before the file extension, like this: image..jpg

There is a fix to this here: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/proje...?issueid=36400 if anyone needs it.

Now to figure out how to resize images in posts.....

Thanks vimto, Pegasus fixed it here yesterday, and I'm intending on doing the fix myself over the next day or so on my site.

I'm just having problems resizing images in the wiki now, they show as a thumb in forum posts (while using IE and not Firefox) but when uploading into the wiki they show full size.

They upload to full size by default into the Image namespace (not sure if there's a way of adjusting this or not), but using the [image] tags, you can reduce them to thumbnail within a wiki article.

If you've uploaded the image for a wiki article yourself, the attachment manager will let you insert it inline, which by default creates the image tags with a thumbnail setting.
