IPB Integration - What Content Type (Does That Apply?)

I'm currently using a slightly outdated version of Vaultwiki on a VB4.05 installation.

I see that in your plans you had posted about IPB integration - what content type will you use (the IP.Board or IP.Content?) As you can imagine, that kind of information is critical for someone like me who is considering a swap over to IPB as I'd need to know which modules to purchase.

And on that point, will updating to VW 4 work with a switch to IPB? Would it be done as move VB --> IPB, then install VW4, then re-convert the previous wiki forums, or would you update first to VW4 on VB, then go through with the database conversion?

      Thanks.

To answer your first question, VaultWiki would use its own content type. It will not be tied to IP.Board or IP.Content as far as the wiki pages go. You will need at least IP.Board for other support functions (like user logins).

As far as importing goes, I should point out that the first method you describe would result in data loss. Since the forums aren't wiki forums anymore (a lot of fields were not imported into IPB), they no longer contain the wiki data.

Instead, you should move vB > IPB, then install VW4 fresh on IPB. Have VW3 still installed on a copy of your old vB at a test location. Use the as-of-yet unwritten importer to import your VW3 data from vB into VW4 on IPB.

Thanks for the quick reply pegasus.

I see, there will be a custom importer, thanks for clarifying on that.

Do you know if VW4 will have any components that will require any of the other modules IPB offers?

Also, I don't mean to offend by asking this - but is there a focus on any one of the forum softwares that you are coding VW4 for - essentially, would it be unwise for me to switch to IPB if VW4 were more important to me than the forum backend?
