      Question VaultWiki for me?

I want a mediawiki but instead with vBulletin. Is vaultwiki for me? I was going to buy nuhit but it's unsupported...is this one actually going to be and stay reported for years to come?

Also, what did it mean by "unprotected" and "protected" not being a feature of vaultwiki?
I want some pages to be locked out from guests and users editing...

Also...want to add categories and subcategories and hierarchy system, does vaultwiki support it?
      Please answer my questions asap.

      Thanks.

Because this is a site that we intend to keep running for many years to come, any software used on our site will continue to be developed and supported for that duration. VaultWiki is one of these packages.

VaultWiki is slightly different from MediaWiki in that it runs natively on vBulletin and does not use the MediaWiki software. Pages are incorporated with vBulletin's forum/subforum hierarchy. VaultWiki uses vBulletin's forum and usergroup permissions so you can lock out pages in certain forums from certain usergroups. "Unprotected" and "protected" (on a per article basis) are not features of VaultWiki at this time, but this is still possible on a per-forum basis.

A Categories addon was recently released which supports categorizing articles into multiple groups. This is not usually possible with the standard forum hierarchy.

What is "protected" and "unprotected" - can articles be locked/closed to prevent editing?

And tell me more about the categories system please.

I believe locking/closing can be accomplished by closing the thread as normal.

The categories system is similar to MediaWiki's. NickyPhils described it well in this post: https://www.vaultwiki.org/showthread.php?p=2908

So each wiki page or whatever...is a thread basically? And it can be locked so nobody can edit it? Like I know Wikipedia can lock its pages so no guests or users can edit it...

Also, categories are like page tags huh?

Is there a page hierarchy system too? So you can have like categories and subcategories or..?

The page hierarchy system can be based on the forum-subforum-thread hierarchy, or providing you are a Premium licensee / have a separate license for Categories.

Okay, now how do URLs look? Are they search engine friendly? Would I be able to use other vBulletin plugins on top of VaultWiki to optimize pages and user experience?

Also, how do pages look and navigation work? Pages are basically threads right, set to look like a Wiki page?

How does navigation work? Could I set a template up just for the forum index page so visitors will be able to browse through the site/wiki/forum easier?

Do you have any live demos of sites using your script by any chance? I am really interested in VaultWiki...my purchase is pending/awaiting the answers to my above questions.

If you haven't seen it already, looking around this site's wiki should answer most of your questions: Demo

As for using other vBulletin plugins on top of VaultWiki, we tried to design VaultWiki to avoid as many plugin conflicts as possible. While compatibility is high, it is likely that some vBulletin addons will not work with VaultWiki. That said, the only places I could imagine there being issues is on VaultWiki's own pages. In the end, it really depends on the specific addon.

How can one make the forum/wiki's homepage look like a regular website instead of a forum index page?

You can use Forum Link in the forum manager to set a different page to show on forum index pages.

In the Forum Manager, look for this option:

      "Forum Link
(Entering a URL here will cause anyone clicking the forum link to be redirected to that URL)"

But I want the forum's directory to be directed to this page or be a customized page instead of the default forum index/listing page.

But that's exactly what you have, customise your page, then paste the url of it into the option pegasus posted, then clicking on the forum directory link will take you to the custom page.

Okay, well now I have another question...
How do the URLs of the Wiki look? Is this plugin vBSEO-compatible?

I would rather links not to look like this:
      index.php/Category: Blob

      But instead more like this:
      forum-directory/Content-Title or forum-directory/Content_Title
