Simply put, a wiki forum is a forum that contains articles for your wiki. When a forum is in a defined namespace and the forum option "Enable wiki in this forum?" is set to "Wiki," the forum will perform most of the wiki functions you would expect.
Setting up a Wiki forum
If you have not yet configured any namespaces, you must do that first. See the Namespace Manager article for more information.
To create a wiki forum, or a forum that is a child of a namespace, open the AdminCP's Forum Manager. Create a new Forum with the "Parent Forum" set as follows:Remember, a namespace's Top-Level forum is one of the values that is set in the Namespace Manager.
- A namespace's Top-Level forum is selected
- OR, a child forum of a namespace's Top-Level forum is selected.
Where it asks "Enable Wiki in this forum," select "Wiki." If you have not configured any namespaces yet, or this forum has "Parent Forum" set to "No One," you will receive an error if you set this to the "Wiki" value.
Save the forum. You should now be able to create articles there by clicking the "New Thread" button on its forumdisplay page, or by clicking "Post New Article" from the Wiki navbar drop-down menu on its forumdisplay page.
Wiki Islands
The Wiki Island is a feature leftover from the NuWiki product. It is unlikely you would ever need to use it, but it is included in VaultWiki for completeness's sake.
A Wiki Island is a forum that has "Enable Wiki in this forum" set to the "Island" value. It is possible to do this for any forum except a Top-Level forum that is part of a configured namespace.
Wiki Islands perform like normal wiki forums in every way, except that you can have more than 1 article in those forums with the same article title. On the other hand, you cannot link to a Wiki Island article using the namespace link BB-Codes. You can still link to Island articles using the URL tag if you know the direct URL, and you can still link to other articles in standard wiki forums using the namespace link BB-Codes.
An example of Wiki Island usage is to create portals to the rest of your wiki from locations deep in your forum's hierarchy. Article redirects are very valuable tools when using Wiki Islands.
