What is the purpose of section synonyms?

My members want to know what the purpose is of section synonyms and frankly I do not understand it either. Is this to create an autolink to a article section?
Could you please explain?

A section synonym automatically jumps to that section.

Lets say you have a page called "Movies Released in 2010"
With sections for January through December.

If you have a section synonym "Movies Released October 2010" that points to "Movies Released in 2010#October", then a link "Movies Released October 2010", including autolinks, will load directly to that section.

I suspected it was working like this, but I was not sure. I have not used vw4 in the wild before.
