      Question Setting up Wiki translations

First of all, great peace of software!

      VaultWik V4.0.10 b1
      XenForo V1.5.6

We are working on a translated wiki that is easy to use and extendable with the help of the community (managed) - VW was our choice.
Due to lack of information we are still stuggling with it.

Problem: We can´t connect the categories - they have all the same content, just translated and sorted in own trees (Wiki-DE etc)
It is no problem to connect articles, but we can´t get rid of catgories, they are never shown as selectable.
Due to the point the flags are also part of the categories it should be doable?
Attached a picture of the Admin Area and the root of the wiki frontend
      Unbenannt.jpgUnbenannt2.jpg

Why isn´t it possible to connect the categories? Wrong configured? Was our thought completely wrong how we done it?

      Thank you for all efforts

Not sure if you really mean categories, or if you mean areas.

For areas, make sure you have this permission:
      - Can translate Area main pages?

      For categories:
      - Can translate Categories?

Make sure they are each assigned to different languages. (It doesn't make sense to translate something into the same language). When you create a new area, I think it is automatically in the default language. You can change the language of any page when you go to Options > Translate This Page.

Thank you for your quick answer. I´m sorry i mean connecting areas/sub areas to the same area/sub area to the other tree. We checked the rights for both wiki moderators and administrative groups, they are set to full. It is now working for the "root" area: Main <> Wiki - DE.
But still all sub areas like 1.Overview <>1.Allgemein is not working (selectable)

If you need more infos/access/page link, just ask

      Thank you

I am not sure if I am understanding the issue, but...

The tree structure of translated content is not merged automatically. It could be a nightmare for permissions and other things.

If you wish to have a fully translated tree, then currently the only way is to create the appropriate areas in the Area Manager. Example:

      - English Area
      ---- English Sub-Area
      -------- English Article in Sub-Area

      - Spanish Area
      ---- Spanish Sub-Area
      -------- Spanish Article in Sub-Area

Then you would link them all to their counterparts. But you cannot show "Spanish Sub-Area" as a child of "English Area" just because "English Area" and "Spanish Area" are marked as translations of each other.

The same applies for the wiki index if you have selected another random page to be a translation of the index. The difference is:
      - Wiki Index (in English)
      ---- English Area
      -------- English Article in Area

      - Spanish Area (translation of Wiki Index, use Display Order = 0 to hide from auto-list on Wiki Index)
---- Spanish Sub-Area (translation of English Area)
-------- Spanish Article in Sub-Area (translation of English Article in Area)

The trees of the index translations might be formatted somewhat differently, but there would still be trees.

There might be ways to merge the trees for display purposes only, which might reduce tree size for these kinds of wikis, but that would need to be a new feature request.

I should mention that you can probably also do this by using categories rather than areas to make your tree or to at least reduce the tree size, but you would have a mixture of languages in some areas, and it would be a little more complicated to setup at first.

      Thank you for your answer,
then we may found a bug?!

Then you would link them all to their counterparts.
We can´t link to this structure you mentioned above (areas with areas)

I want to show you a picture that should explain it better, i´m sorry
      Unbenannt.JPG
As you could see, "Wiki-DE" and "Main" (the english counterpart) is connected and working - good
But as you see in this area filter, there are no sub areas (when i try it with a subarea, too) we could not link in the same way. They are not shown

Other question we fall over: Is it possible to higher the "New Pages in area X" count, that more pages will be displayed by default (to prevent the klick on all pages)
A global option for the whole wiki is enough

Thank you for your dedicated help

You are filtering by area, and you are looking at only the root level of areas. You must either: A) click the "Expand" link to show sub-areas of that root area (looks like this icon is invisible for some reason, but it would be to the left of the parent name), OR B) don't filter by area (i.e. use "None" instead), and find the area using the search function.

Wow, there is a button! This changes indeed everything! I never made a click at this area.
As a fast bug report, i checked the css

      .vw-search-group-open {
      background-image: url(vault/resources/images/trees/lm-left.gif);
      }
This image is - not found -

EDIT: The downloaded .zip contain no lm-left.gif (at least the resources folder)

      Should i open a ticket?

Is there a possible solution for my second question (maybe a small workaround at the code?) or should i open a feature request ticket?

Thank you very much for that small hint!

I have already added the missing images for the next version, but you are welcome to post a bug on our Support tab so other users know it will be fixed. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

To increase the list preview size you mentioned, those settings are in Home > Options > VaultWiki: Navigation. If you make "Number of Previewed X Contents" = "Number of X Contents Per Page", you will get page navigation instead of the Show All link.

I´m sorry i was too fast, they are not shown with "none" filter because they are not selectable (no + icon on the right)
So i still can´t connect them

      Unbenannt.JPG
      Connect 2.Installation with 2. Installations

It is a little bit embarrassing now, i have no idea from which home or settings area you are talking
      Xenforo Admin area -hm no?
      Wiki itself, hm no?
I´m sorry. We are three people and that doesn´t make it better yet

      Thank you very much!

If the area you want to select is written in English (UK), it cannot be selected because you have already chosen a different selection for English (UK) "Effect development". If you would like to change your selection, you must deselect your current choice first by using the "x" next to the choice. If the area you want to select is written in Deutsch [du], it cannot be selected because the article you are trying to connect is also written in Deutsch [du].

Yes, Home would be the tab in the XenForo Admin CP.

      Thank you for the hint!
      This was a bad picture.
There seams to be a odd problem. And i can´t catch it. I checked again the area settings at the admin panel where are the difference in between Main <> Wiki-DE and all other areas

Have a quick look at the 2 pictures, make this sense?

Maybe there is no translation record for "3. Konfiguration" yet. Try saving the empty Translate configuration for "3. Konfiguration", then reload the Translate tab for "3. Configuration".

If this doesn't work, would you be able to open a ticket? Go to our Members tab, and click the Tickets option under My Account. You will find an option to open a new ticket there.

      In vault/core/controller/ui/assign/area/vw.php, find:
      Code:
      !$input['filter'] OR
      After it, add:
      Code:
      !$input['filter']['isContent'] OR
This will add the "+" to areas when organizing by areas for translations.

As I mentioned, you will have to manually save empty translations for some areas in order to get them to appear on the None filter, because the form can't figure out what language an area is until after you make this edit.

This bug should be fully resolved in the next version (4.0.11) when it is released. This report has resulted in the following changes:
      Code:
Changed: added MediaWiki import of page language (MW >= 1.24)
Fixed Bug: possible language mismatch of imported pages
Fixed Bug: default wiki language doesn't match default forum language at install
Fixed Bug: filter nodes not considered valid translations
Fixed Bug: can't translate new areas, imports, or auto-gen pages

      Dear pegasus,
sorry for the late reply! We started now with the translation from EN do DE to fill the areas with content.
Your quickfix leads to the following picture
      Unbenannt.jpg

As you see there is one + that is overlaped with the "new" one that was inserted for all entrys. But i am sure you know this.

I tried again to connect area "2. Installation(EN)" with area "2. Installations(DE)" (both are filled with language specific pages)

The backend don´t like (won´t save) the following connection
      Connect "2. Installations(DE)" with "2. Installation(EN)" -> connection not saved (no error)
      Connect "2. Installation(EN)" with "2. Installations(DE)" -> connection saved and working!

      No idea why that happen.

I tried to repeat this with "1. Overview(EN)" and "1. Allgemein(DE)" with no success (Both are filled with language specific content pages)

I hope you could (or you have already) found the strange problem.

      Code:
Fixed Bug: filter nodes not considered valid translations
Fixed Bug: can't translate new areas, imports, or auto-gen pages
May fix this our problems? The workaround in your last post was not the real solution
Will it be possible to attach easier an area to a single language (or easier to connect)

Thank you for your fast support/investigation and V4.0.11!

EDIT: 3. EN and 3. DE is also working out of the box, and this areas have no pages inside, just sub areas that store pages
