Unable to connect to remote server

I am unable to post anything in the support, so i am making a quick post.

I just installed Vaultwiki on our xenforo, and am getting this issue on the homepage for it:

      Latest Version Available
Unable to connect to remote server

Any idea how to fix this real quick?

If your server is unable to connect to our server, your server's root certificate cache may not be up to date or may not contain the root certificates from our signing authority. First, try updating the root certificates installed on your server. This process varies and you should look up the appropriate steps for your distro. If you are on a shared host, you may need to ask the host to update the root certificates.

It is an up to date Ubuntu 14.04 box at linode.

Im not exactly sure how to do it?

What URL is it trying to grab against? I want to see what happens with lynx or wget.

      It is cUrling to https://www.vaultwiki.org
It must validate vaultwiki.org's SSL certificate first, otherwise another server pretending to be vaultwiki.org might send you stuff to put in your admin panel. It is designed to refuse to connect if it cannot validate the certificate.

      sudo update-ca-certificates

If this does not work, you might have to copy our certificate to your certificate store manually, then run this command again. Our certificate is located in vault/core/controller/cp/index/ca.crt
It seems a typical Ubuntu box will want certificates in this directory:
      /usr/local/share/ca-certificates/

If your server certificates are up-to-date, and you manually added our certificate to your trust list above, then another possibility is that our certificate is damaged in some way, possibly due to connection problems during upload. Make sure there are no skipped lines in that file and that the file does not cut off prematurely.

I can curl that website no problem with no ssl errors. When the page first loads it quickly flashes that lits up to date, before it goes to cannot connect to remote host.

What it ended up being is PHP5-Curl was not even installed.

Im not sure if its possible to add a requirement check before install to make sure it exists, or catch the error better when its missing, but that is what it was.

I ended up writing my own tests curl and that's when i figured it out.

Thanks, we will add a message stating the cURL support is missing for such cases, instead of a generic connect error.
