How to connect translations ?

VW3 does not have translations so we just had separate islands for different languages. How do we connect translated articles?

The interface fucntionality is not clear to me. I expected that I could enter a wiki title into the search box and hit enter. But instead it says my changes were saved. I dont know what changes.

It will tell you changes were saved, even if nothing was changed.

If you used islands for the other languages, rather than saving them to a separate language, that will make them hard to find. The interface will only show results that are not saved in the same language as the current wiki article (it doesn't make sense to offer an English article as a translation of an English article).

So if everything was saved as one language before, you will have to go to those wiki articles first and set the correct languages.

As a side note, VaultWiki 3 did have translations (it was added in 3.0.0 Beta 5), but I suspect you did not set them up and use them. The importer was designed to import these connections if they were already made, and I can think of some imports I've done where that did work.

That's something that I think can be fixed.
How do we set the articles to the correct language in VW3?

I think there is a "Translate" tab in VW3, but you need to turn on Multi-Language support in its settings before it will appear. Recall that VW3 was tied to forum languages, so keep that in mind, as I'm not sure what you have. The tab just lets you pick the corresponding forum language for that article.

You can also link the translations on that tab if you know the URLs of all the articles that need to be linked. Being how old the last release is now, I'm also not too sure how well it works. I'm sure you'll let me know. Since you need to know URLs for the translations in VW3, you might want to wait until you move to VW4 for that part, since VW4 made that easier with the search function. That's up to you though. You can still change the language settings without linking anything.
