      Exclamation Import Mediawiki-Installation to Xenforo

      Hi,
i want to import a big mediawiki-installation to vaultwiki on xenforo.

      My wiki: http://geislingen.org/wiki/index.php?title=Hauptseite
      My Xenforo: http://geislingen.org/marktplatz/

I want to import as much as possible from the MW-install

My first step is to translate Vaultwiki for a frontend-use in german!

      pegasus told me:

There are some features of MediaWiki that VaultWiki doesn't support at this current time. The only one I remember is this:
      - put a category in a template and every page that uses the template gets added to the category
If you used some extensions in MediaWiki, most of them probably won't work or get imported.

Otherwise, I believe the MediaWiki import is one of the more straightforward imports.

Since you said you have a lot of questions, please send them along so that we can get them answered.
      It begins...

Is it possible to use vaultwiki as not signed-in user? MW the IP is the user then..

What about namespaces? What are namespaces in vaultwiki ?

Yes, you can use VaultWiki as a guest/unregistered user. I would recommend that guest wiki edits and posts be sent to moderation if you want to allow that.

VaultWiki actually doesn't have namespaces like MediaWiki does. The closest thing is Prefixes. The only thing a prefix affects is the name of an article. In MediaWiki, you had categories with the "Category" prefix (like "Category:MyCategory"). In VaultWiki you can make a category with any prefix you want (so you can have "Category:MyCategory" or just "MyCategory"). So it is more flexible in that way.

This makes sense. Is it possible to moderate only edits from guest/unregistered?

I think this should work for my wiki...

Yes, you can make it so that only guest edits are moderated, and other users can edit normally.

All phrases in VaultWiki have a vw_ prefix.
I don't know of any general translation tools for XenForo phrases at this time.
Tab names generally start with a vw_tab_ prefix.

I don't think there are currently phrases for the special page titles. But looking at the code, I see the titles should have phrases (for display only). This is a bug we'll have to fix. Please create a report, or I'll do it tomorrow.

In an Import Service, we typically handle:

      - Proper configuration of the importer and wiki settings based on the source wiki
      - Running the importer
      - Checking for problems in result data and resolving them

The idea is to perform the parts of the process that might give some users headaches. For example, an improper config might result in a poorly imported wiki or errors.

      Hi,
what about users and their contributions from the source mediawiki-install?
Is it possible to import this, too?

Contributions are copied from the source MediaWiki.
The importer checks if there is a forum user with the same username as the contributor. If yes, that forum user gets credit for the contribution. If no, then a fake guest with the source username gets credit.

At this time VaultWiki does not get involved with creating users.

Must this match 100% (Match Hollosch to hollosch?)
Can we configure the fake-guest name, e.g. old-wiki-user007, old-wiki-user008 and so on... ?
