I get an error when trying to install the latest beta with: https://xenforo.com/community/resour...l-upgrade.960/
is this known? is it intended to work with it? any plans to make it work?

There is a bug in Addon Install & Upgrade, not VaultWiki. VaultWiki cannot fix it, since VaultWiki is not installed at the time that you try to use it. The author of Addon Install & Upgrade knows about the issue and has already developed a fix. He has not released it yet, though.
You should use the normal installation procedure for XenForo modifications to install the VaultWiki stub file, and then proceed to install VaultWiki in the way described in our Install Manual.- lead developer for VaultWiki
