Some question regarding the xenforo vaultwiki

I'm a xenforo user and would love to know when somebody writes a story, can other users add other chapters to it. More along the lines of "http://www.writing.com/main/interact/item_id/186105-Aliens-among-us/map/1"

Is this wiki stable for xenforo yet?

Is it too resource intensive for a shared host?

      Thanks in advance.

      Hi,

If someone starts a wiki book, yes other users can add chapters to it. If you don't want this, there is a setting for wiki areas (where the book is saved), that can protect content so only the poster can add to it.

While VaultWiki 4 is technically not labeled a stable release, we are comfortable with users installing it on live XenForo sites since Gamma 3. In my opinion, XenForo is a more stable platform than vBulletin now, and this means that VaultWiki is more stable on XenForo. There are still some bugs but I don't think it is anything major that you would have to worry about.

XenForo + VaultWiki uses about the same resources as vanilla vBulletin. VaultWiki has been used by many users on shared hosts for years without problems. The newest release Gamma 3 focused a little bit on performance, and VaultWiki is much better now in terms of the resources it needs.

However, shared hosts typically put limits on the size of your database, and even on the number of files you are allowed to upload. I had an account with HostMonster a few years back and the limit was 1,000 database tables and 100,000 inodes (files + folders).

Another thing to keep in mind is that VaultWiki may not be able to run the install script if your MySQL max_allowed_packet is less than 32M. Some shared hosts left this at the default value of 1M or 512K, so you should contact them to make sure. First make sure you are allowed to change it, then since you are using XenForo, try to install it anyway. It might just be vBulletin that has trouble with large packets. Let me know if you are successful with XenForo and low packet settings, so that we can update the minimum requirements accordingly.
