Exclamation How will VW3 bbcodes in forum work after upgrade to VW4?

The VW bbcodes like header tags are not only used in wiki articles but also throughout my forum. In the case of header code its not only to display text with a h1 html code, but also to cause chapter lines.
So what happens when we upgrade to VW4? Will posts still have this markup?
What happens to such posts if we migrate from vbulletin3 to xenforo? Will VW bbcode still work in xenforo? Or will thousands of posts be wrecked?

Almost all BB-Codes like H, HR, COMMENT, etc are still included in VaultWiki 4.

The only removed BB-Code is REDIRECT.

Some BB-Codes that used to have meaning in VaultWik 3 should silently fail in VaultWiki 4. Example: In VaultWiki 3, the FORUMINDEX BB-Code would show a list of all wiki articles in the current forum. Since a wiki article no longer has a "current forum", this is meaningless. Since the indexes are automatically generated and included on landing pages anyway, I see little immediate need for an AREAINDEX code or something of the like. The FORUMINDEX code should still continue working properly in regular forum areas.

Do I understand this correctly that if I migrate my forum from vb to xf, then the vw bbcodes will still work in forum posts?

They are supposed to, but due to issues with XenForo's parser in 1.1 that were fixed in 1.2, I am not sure if they will always work as expected in 1.1. VaultWiki 4 Beta 2 will be compatible with XF 1.2 if you want to wait. We will be packaging it tonight for release.

My users are going nuts without a FORUMINDEX, they want an alphabetic list of the wiki terms, not just a list sorted by most recent updates. How can I do this?

After import to vw4 my wiki is a mess, because every wiki has many custom bb codes in it.
How do I add the custom bb codes back in?

Custom BB-Codes under XenForo are a different animal entirely. You might want to look up a tutorial for that. It's not as simple as using a Custom BB-Code Manager, unless you're using the BB-Code Manager add-on (which is untested with VaultWiki).

True. Though I expect that 1.3 will have a custom bb manager included, because its one of the most popular requests and XenForo consistently implement the most popular suggestions.
There needs to be a solution for it though. There is no way to upgrade to VW4 if this means loosing all bbcode.

You can use the same argument in another way.

There is no way to migrate to XenForo if this means losing all custom BB-Codes in any posted content. In the end, this is a XenForo issue, and a XenForo migration issue, and it needs to be handled that way. It is only coincidental that many of your custom BB-Codes happen to be used in wiki articles.

When a board owner decides to migrate to XenForo, that decision also includes accepting this loss or taking the steps necessary to mitigate that loss. It is one of the many reasons we have yet to migrate to XenForo ourselves (although the biggest reason is lack of a comparable Project Tools solution - we may eventually have to write our own).

True, but migrating to xenforo does not mean loosing any custom bb code.

Yes, the lack of a project tools with xenforo is a real issue for many sites. IMHO even for xenforo.com and for the XF resource manager. But this one works even though its not supported: http://xenforo.com/community/threads...xenforo.17185/
