Language Pack Requests

As some of you are aware, and probably many aren't, VaultWiki 4 contains a new language system, and is a complete rewrite anyway so mostly every phrase is brand new. There are already more phrases in the development version of VaultWiki 4 than in the current version of VaultWiki 3 and we might not even be 75% through the phrasing process.

What we would like to get a sense of is what non-English languages are people using VaultWiki with on their site. We want to start adding better multi-language in VaultWiki 4, including translated XML files, and internal functions designed to better handle each language on an individual basis.

However, there are thousands of languages, so rather than hold up VaultWiki 4's release over this point, we plan to release official support for 1-3 new languages with each update. By having a list of the languages people need, it will really help us to decide which languages to start supporting first.

I've added a poll to this thread, but if a language you need isn't on the list, don't hesitate to mention it in the thread so we can add it. The current options were composed based on a combination of VaultWiki's existing demographics and Wikipedia's list of most natively spoken languages.

Please, put your language files clean so you have an en-languagefile and equvalent es- fr- it- de- files. Put en-languagefile somewhere and we'll translate it to foreign languages. And in your code put a language switch so you choose the languagefile according this switch. The best structure of your language file is: variable, english, english; and the others should be: variable, english, language; so we work in plain files, put ansi-encoding of phrases that need them and leave the rest on plain text.

I'll work on spanish code as soon as you pubish it.

The language file is stored at /vault/core/controller/install/db/xml. It is multiple files in that directory.

If you can, please store the files as UTF-8, if using a text editor. We will have a language file distribution script that can change encodings when users download it, but starting from UTF-8 would be easiest. If you are going to translate from inside vBulletin's AdminCP, then please just try to browse the AdminCP with the same forum language every time you translate.

Thanks for your instructions. I'll try the two approachs. I use allways the same language setting in the forum. (and I have transaled a lot of phrases inside vB)
