Displaying all wiki categories in a YUI tree

Im working on a vbadvanced YUI navigation tree. (which is inside a jquery harmonica)

How do I display in this tree an alphabetical list of all wiki category articles?
How do I cache it so that it doesn't search for the information every time someone opens the page?

For an example how to get an alphabetical list of all categories, see /vault/factory/special/categories.php
This is potentially a very long list. IMO it's best to create a list manually of the main/most important categories.

If vBadvanced doesn't have its own caching system, then you are out of luck on that front.
