      Divs are block-level elements by default, this means the width is 100% of the container. Centering something that is 100% wide doesn't make any noticeable change.

      You have to either:
      1. Define an exact width of the containing DIV < 100%, or
      2. Set "display: inline-block" to make the element take on the width of its contents.
