Comment bb code? What does that do?

After a NuWiki -> vaultwiki import test, I found comment bb code in my articles. AFAIK I never had that before. What does it do and how did it get there?

COMMENT outputs nothing. They are only visible from the editor.

Some articles that were created during the import, like Book indexes, didn't have any text to import, so COMMENT tags were added to satisfy vBulletin's minimum character requirement. Otherwise, it doesn't look like the converter handles them for NuWiki imports. If you accidentally ran a MediaWiki conversion, it may have converted HTML comments to COMMENT tags.

These were added to an article with a lot of text. Only a Nuwiki conversion was run.
I do not have empty articles.

Aside from the situations mentioned in my previous post, the only other way I know of to add COMMENT tags is to use the editor button...

Once your revisions are sorted in the proper order it might be easier to tell at what point they were added. I believe that running a NuWiki conversion creates a new edit, so you can use the Compare button to view the post-con-version against the unconverted version.

I found the issue. Please ignore. This is not a bug, but one of my test pilots editing the comment tag in.

Why is there a button for the comment bb code, while this bb code has no use?

You can use it to explain parts of the article's markup for the benefit of other people editing the article. It is safe to do this because the contents of the BB-Code don't appear in the article's rendered output.

I personally have also found it useful for adding line breaks for readability (in the editor) when you don't want that many line breaks in the actual article.
