IPB Questions

Hello, I have a few question about Vault Wiki. I saw that your supporting it for IPB, and I'm very glad to hear that as it is nothing else out their for it.

1. Will VaultWiki (VW) be inline with the pages like it is currently on this site or be connect like and application for IPB?
2. I click on order and got a dead link. What will the price be when the new version comes out?
3. Now I have no idea what this is called but I see it in Wiki's all the time. If you write an article and their are words that make up a title of another article is under link and hyperlink to that other article. Does VW support this as well? Also, anybody know what that is called I'm talking about?

To be clear: we don't currently support IPB. This is a goal for version 4, which should be released as a beta some time in December.

1. We still have to review a lot of IPB's code, so it is hard to give a definite answer. It is our intention to port VaultWiki to other software as exactly as we can.

2. I'm not having any issues with the order process. Can you be most specific where you were clicking? There are several order links throughout the site.

3. What you are describing is referred to here as "Auto-linking". When you didn't actually place a link in the article while editing, but the wiki recognizes the title as a valid article. VaultWiki does this if the title has the same URL prefix as the current article.

2. The link up top says Buy Now, click that went to a dead place. Now it don't...weird.

Let's say you have two pages that you want to give the same title. This would not be possible because the URL would be the same, or at least linking to the right one by title would be difficult and confusing. However, by saving the same-title articles in different locations, you can give one (or both) a Prefix.

As an example, say you want an article about "Swordfish", but you also want an article about the movie of the same name. So, to differentiate them, you can have:

Swordfish
Fish:Swordfish
Movie:Swordfish

So, if you were writing an article about Clownfish in the Fish area, and you mentioned Swordfish, it would link to Fish:Swordfish, not Movie:Swordfish, because the Clownfish article isn't in the area with the Movie prefix.

Hey Pegasus it been a few months, I been following development VaultWiki 4.0.0 in the development area and wondering is it still moving forward or redone for the benchmark set?

Development has been moving forward, there have been a few delays since we have to continue developing the current release until it's ready. Since VaultWiki 4 will be a complete rewrite, not a gradual refactoring, it unfortunately requires a division of development labor. This is not typical compared to past releases and has made it difficult for us to come up with a good ETA.

You can also follow my blogs. I am currently doing a series on VaultWiki 4. The next entry will likely be on the install/upgrade process, since we are finishing that up now.

I been following the tracker lately and enjoying seeing the development on the progress of the next version. I check your blog out but the last entry was in Nov of last year. :O

Yes, I apologize for falling behind on the blogs. The issue there was that the next one was supposed to be about how to upgrade from VaultWiki 3, and the upgrade system has yet to be completed, because it relies on:

The import system, to import forum threads as articles. In VaultWiki 3 articles were stored as threads.
The import system, to convert old attachments. This is the item we are currently working on. Perhaps I should blog about why a new attachment system was necessary.

Been following progress as I very edger to test this out when it goes live. I'm glad your making progress. If you didn't know IPB support mobile skin already so it may be supported just like VB does. There talking about also the next upgrade to the forums IPB 3.2.0. Keep it up.

This is discussed elsewhere, but the first release is private and is 4.0.0 Alpha 1. Neither IPB nor XenForo are supported in this release, since we are testing that the core wiki works properly. For the public releases 4.0.0 Beta 1 and 2 we will be adding support for XenForo and IPB in whatever order reflects the vocal demand.
