      Configuration frustration

Im really starting to get frustrated trying to set the wiki up. Premium valtwiki, vb 3.8.6

First the documentation on how to configure everything is pretty weak. Im not even seeing all the tabs that you show in some of your images here.

      Example:
      http://www.vaultwiki.org/pages/Image...ew-chapter.jpg

On my screen i dont have history, apply or protect.

So far i have 9 books and i want to add chapters to them and i cant do it. I had my tech guy try it and he managed to get one to have chapters and by the time he figured it out he was really questioning why im using this program. He even couldnt understand the docs provided here.

There are several ways you can add chapters to your new Book, depending on which page you're on, and what's most convenient.

      * Scroll down and place your cursor over the phrase "Table of Contents", you'll see a "+" icon appear.
      I dont have that button

You can also scroll to the end of the Table of Contents, where you'll see a button "Add New Chapter".
      Again i dont have it

If you're on the Book's Edit tab and the Book already has at least 1 chapter, you'll see an "Add Chapter" button among the controls for chapter management.
I made one post in one book like you said and when i hit edit i dont have the option to add a new chapter

Heres a link to my wiki http://www.reef-geeks.com/forums/showwiki.php

The book called fish is the only one that has a chapter, and yes i know i have some of the books turned off for posting.

Can you please tell me whats going on?

It sounds to me like you haven't set any of the permissions for the wiki. It's under AdminCP > Usergroups > Usergroup Permissions, for each usergroup, there's a section called VaultWiki Permissions.

Thank you for your reply but why would you set the default for admins as "no" for everything? That makes no sense to me.

Not sure if this has fixed the problem yet but ill let you know as soon as im done giving myself permission to edit and change settings on my own forum

In the bitfields file, the default for admins is yes for everything. But it looks like this capability (setting default values) has been broken in vBulletin for years and they still haven't bothered to fix it. I have reported this to vBulletin just now, we'll see if they continue to ignore the issue.

Ok i went through all the permissions i could find involving the wiki and set admins to yes. I now have a few more tabs for admins but still not the add chapter button in all my books.

      Heres my list of books

Heres what i see in the book that i can add chapters in

And heres what i see in the ones that i cant

In the ones that i cant see the button if i click the book tab it trys to create a new book. Should i just delete all my books and start over creating them this way or is there something else i can do?

The individual books themselves are not created in the AdminCP. In the AdminCP, you only create a forum to store the books in.

In the Namespace Manager, you should have 1 area called "Books". Then to add a new Book to it, go there in your forum and Post New Article.

This is explained in the two doc pages on this topic:
      http://www.vaultwiki.org/manual/Setting-Up-Books
You probably don't have a "Book" row anymore. You should be able to create a new namespace, name it "Books", and assign it as the Book namespace using the "Namespace Functions" box at the bottom of the Namespace Manager.

The one namespace called fish is assigned to books. So your saying all my books should be in one book? If im not mistaken doing it this way i cant have the tabs for all the different "books" on the showwiki page. Ill just have one tab named fish or books and then when clicked ill be taken to a bunch of threads which are also books?

Isnt there a way i can have more then one main book so i can have the tabs on the showwiki page like in the photo above? Or at least have the tabs on the showwiki page link directly to the other books.

Doing it this way Its just one forum with a bunch of mixed topics. Every time a new chapter is made it like posting a new thread in a regular forum and the display order gets mixed up.

Im really wanting to use this program especially since i paid $60 for it but it looking more and more to me like this is just going to be one big mixed topic forum.

      For organization:
      1. Keep your existing forums as they are, except make a main Book namespace as I mentioned earlier. Leave Fish as a non-Book area.
      2. Using the Move tab on each book page you already created, move the first page of each book into the Book namespace. (The page that shows the book's Table of Contents).
      3. You can now create chapters for all your books. When creating a new chapter for the Fish book, create it in the forum called "Fish". When creating a new chapter for the DIY book, create it in the forum called DIY.

This way, even though the books are in the main books forum, the individual chapters are still organized nicely.

Then, to make all the showwiki page links go to the Book:
      1. You need to know the URL of each Book TOC page. You might have something like:
      yourdomain/showwiki.php?title=Book:Fish
      yourdomain/showwiki.php?title=Book:DIY

      2. For each forum (e.g. Fish, DIY), follow the instructions here: http://www.vaultwiki.org/manual/Repl...the-Forum-View

This should accomplish what you want.
