We all know the 'promote to blog' button in vbulletin. I suggest a similar button in forum posts, to allow users to nominate the content of a forum post for wiki inclusion.
Forums contain a mass of information, which is often buried deep into threads. For medium to large boards its impossible to go trough all posts to search for information should be included into related wiki articles. With a 'Nominate post for Wiki inclusion' button, it is possible to have forum members do the work for you and suggest that the content of a post or a snippet in the post, will be included in a certain wiki.
This could work like this:
A user clicks the 'Nominate post for Wiki inclusion' button.
The user then needs to:
- fill in the reason for this nomination
- select the wiki article which the text relates to (drop down or an AJAX autocomplete field)
- select which part of the text should be nominated.
This brings the user to the discussion page of the wiki article, where the following is posted:
------------------------------------------
I would like to nominate the content of the following post for inclusion:
[selected text]
I nominate this for inclusion because:
[given reason]
------------------------------------------
Im very sure that I am in need of this or similar feature. I expect that our wiki base would grow a lot from it.
What do you think?
