      Books Question

      So we're finally about to go live with our vbulletin site, and my main wiki guy asked me to enable Books on our site. It looks really useful for people to be able to make guides. I just have one question: Is there any way to hide the Chapter titles in the listing of all the books? If only the Book title were to appear then it would be much easier for my users to find what they want, and then browse the chapters inside by clicking on the Book's title to go to its page.

      Not sure what you're asking. If you don't want the chapters in the book list, then make sure the chapters are created in a different (preferably non-Book) forum.

      I think I may have been confused about how this works. I was putting everything into one forum set up to do Books, but perhaps I need to make the Books section a separate sub-forum and let people put the pieces elsewhere. If that makes sense.

      Ok, I think I have this figured out, but I want to check. This is what I did:

      I have Forum A, which is an Island Wiki, which provides my users a place to show off their guides.
      Then I have a forum named Books, which is established as Wiki and have been given the Books namespace.
      Last I have a forum named Chapters, which is another Island Wiki where my Book's Chapters should go.

      So let's say I have a user who wants to make a short, single page Guide to how to do something simple, like change the character's armor color in their game. They can make a regular wiki article in Forum A.

      Next I have a user who wants to give a long comprehensive guide on how to build your own dungeon, monsters and quests for their game. He goes into the Books forum and starts a new Book. Then he goes to add a chapter, and is supposed to make his first Chapter have the same name as the Book, and the first chapter goes into Forum A. All subsequent chapters should go into the Chapters forum, so they don't clutter things up.

      I set it up this way so that I can have Guides divided by topic in Forum A, Forum B, Forum C, and so on. I want them to put the first chapter, with the same name as the book into the appropriate forum so people can search for Guides by forum. However, if someone just wants to check the list of Books, they can click the Books link in the menu and look at the full listing instead. The only difference is that this wouldn't include any of the single-page guides people include.

      Now, two questions:
      1-Is there any way to do what I am trying to do in a simpler manner?
      2-Is there any way to edit the permissions for where users are allowed to create Chapters?

      Also, my test user reported this problem occurring:
      Permissions for the Add Chapter feature on the book seem off, It creates the page, but says not enough permission to add as chapter, but can add it manually in the created chapter.
      I'm not sure what to do about that, as I haven't been able to duplicate it.

      You can't really do your workflow in a simple manner. If you really want your first chapter in another place than the other chapters, this is just a forum rule that you will have to tell your users.

      You can create a chapter if you have permission to create a new article. You can add it to a book if you have permission to edit the chapter AND edit the book. Normally problems adding chapters is due to the test user not having wiki edit permissions in one of your forums, or the chapter is being added to the moderation queue.

      Before going crazy trying to find a phantom setting, try editing vault/tab/book.php. Find:
      Code:
      vault_generate_tabs($wikipost);
      Replace with:
      Code:
      vault_generate_tabs($wikipost, !defined('CHAPTER_CREATED'));
      Then ask your user if the problem persists.
