      Question VaultWiki in Persian language

      Hello,

I am looking forward to purchase the premium version of VaultWiki but first of all I have to be sure that it is fully compatible with Persian(Farsi) language.
Basically its style must be compatible with right-to-left languages.

Currently my vBulletin forum is 3.8.4 and in Persian language.

I would like to know if there is any demo or I have guaranty for language compatibility.

      Thanks is advance,

What character encoding do you use for Persian language? Currently VaultWiki is only fully compatible with non-English characters if the charset is UTF-8. I will check RTL on my test board and get back to you. In theory it should work correctly based on how we currently use the stylevars, but I know on vBulletin.com they have been fighting to get RTL support for vB4 because of browser quirks or something.

Either way it is fully our intent to be compatible with and support RTL.

      thanks for your reply.

      Character encoding is indeed UTF-8.
But I don't think there is any problem with RTL on vB4. I have seen many vB4 forums having no problem. There are also language packs which can be installed to translate the vB script.

      Hi,
I installed the free version of VaultWiki on a testing vb. There is no problem in showing the Persian characters, the only problem is the style:

      Here is the article...

Article tabs should start from right instead of left. In Persian Mediawiki the tabs are right-to-left.

This was a bug that affects VaultWiki and VaultWiki Lite when it's installed on vBulletin < 4 (when using vBulletin 4 the CSS doesn't have this issue). I have created a report (and fixed the issue for the next release) here: http://www.vaultwiki.org/issues/1587/

If you have the inclination before the next release, you can modify the vault_css templates in the Lite version to fix the left/right values.

As a side note, while trying to test RTL, I have noticed that my browser erroneously moves square brackets [ ] and colons : when they are the right-most character. Any thoughts, or is this just a common issue when reading posts that were entered LTR?

Thanks for the bug fixing report.
Can I have a timeframe for the next release?
Could you please be more specific about modifying vault_css templates?

Yes that is a very common issue that happens mostly when English and RTL words meet each other. [] () % # * : ; and etc.

In addition (in vB and MediaWiki) at the end of the RTL phrases (e.g. a thread title) the character "٠" should be added if the last word of the phrase is in English. (press End button -> space -> ٠)
      without ٠

      with ٠

But this is not going to be a problem as RTL writers are used to do such things. (by RTL I mean Persian(Farsi) and probably Arabic languages)

      Thanks for the info.

We are planning to have the next commercial release ready in about 2 weeks. The next Lite release will be this weekend to correct this issue. Regarding modifying the templates:
      1. Go to Styles & Templates > Search in Templates.
      2. Enter 'vault_css' and search by title.
      3. In the resulting templates, if you see any hardcoded 'left' or 'right' values, these should be changed to '$stylevar[left]' and '$stylevar[right]' respectively.
      4. Then you will want to search for 'vw-' templates and do the same.

There are about 6 or 7 templates in all that actually need to be changed. It should take about 5 or 10 minutes to make the changes manually.
