      Recommended for 3.8.x?

      Hi there,

Our Big Board is still running on vBulletin 3.8.4 with NuWiki as our current wiki. We'd like to get started right away with a transition to VaultWiki. What version of VaultWiki should we be using? I noticed that many builds are listed as "Unstable". Which do you recommend for us to use?

NOTE: Specifically, I want to use some of the special modules (Category, etc.), but I noticed that on the Members section they are listed to "versions 2.5.7 and lower". What do you recommend?

      Thanks!

The special modules you mention are included with the main download starting with version 3.0.0 Beta 1, which is why the "versions 2.5.7 and lower" distinction is made.

To be honest, while many builds are listed as unstable, this doesn't mean that there are terrible bugs or something that should make you afraid to use them (those packages are not listed and usually have been replaced by Patch Level releases). The "Unstable" stamp is just a way of reminding customers that they are downloading a Beta or RC release.

Even though you're still using vBulletin 3.8.4, I would recommend using the latest build of VaultWiki (3.0.0 RC 1). There are significant improvements across the board with the 3.x family. Namespacing and inline moderation are more stable than in 2.5.x.

I seem to remember that you were hesitant to switch to VaultWiki until certain NuWiki features were ported over - like using templates and other wiki codes in non-wiki areas. Please note that RC 1 does not yet support this. If you look at our 3.0.0 Milestone in the tracker, you'll see that our next release (RC 2) is going to be very parser-centric in terms of the changes that are made. Specifically, that's when we plan to extend some wiki-parser functionality to non-wiki forum areas.

If this is important to you, you may want to hold off on transitioning until that time (about 3 weeks from now), or you may want to make some modifications to keep NuWiki working in your non-wiki posts until then (making sure NuWiki's BB-Codes take precedence, by making the bbcode_create Execute Order later than VaultWiki's).

Thanks, pegasus. I will plan on using RC1.

Though a sizable segment of our community uses forum-wide template bbcodes, I'm really looking towards the future for an upgrade and the featureset that VaultWiki offers is simply superior to what we are currently using in NuWiki, so I am definitely willing to take the plunge.
