      More Help--Headers

      www.thedarktower.com/palaver

Above is the link to my site. I am loving the product so far but after reading this entire forum (I work graveyards), I can't seem to figure out how to get a header into my wiki forums.

      The forums in question are:

      The King Collectibles Catalog
      Towerpedia!

I'm doing my best to figure out the instructions. I just really don't understand namespaces.

My default namespace is the Towerpedia forum, I set up a new one for the other. I would really like to show a header in both but I have all my usergroup permissions set and the option to have a header in the forum manager is set to yes.

I am thinking I have to somehow link the header namespace to these forums but I can't figure out how to do it. Thanks in advance.

Before you can create headers, you need to create a dedicated forum to keep the headers in. To do so, go to CES VaultWiki > Namespace Manager, and Edit the "Header" namespace, and use the setting "Create New Forum" for it.

You should then be able to go back to the Towerpedia forum and see a link to add information to its header.

Hmmmm...this is starting to make sense. That may have been the missing piece for me. Thanks pegasus!

Do I remember you from NuWiki? I was using that as a wiki before this. Thought support there was your user name.

Speaking of that, is there anyway in this program to create the alphabetical listing of articles under the header like NuWiki had?

      Oops--another question.

I have "Towerpedia" set as the default name space. It is a main forum but resides in a catagory. When I try to change it to "wiki" in the forum setup I get the error message:

The forum could not be added to the namespace. Create the forum with the Wiki mode disabled, and configure the namespace in the Namespace Manager to include this forum. You can then activate the forum's Wiki mode.
Not sure how to fix this or if my default should be another forum...kind of lost again.

The good news is the header worked perfectly for the other namespace I created so there is progress!

Haha, yes, you do remember me from NuWiki. I was not officially a support person there, just a very active member of their forums. That is, until they disappeared and I needed a working wiki product.

As for your Towerpedia error message, you should not have to set the Wiki mode if you select the forum via the Namespace Manager. It's really only for subforums of Towerpedia. Check the Namespace Manager and make sure that the correct forum was selected ("Towerpedia"). Even if it was, try clicking "Save" again to synchronize the forum data.

Thank you again, that worked perfectly.

Now I have my header in but every time I turn the wiki on it shows there is no information in any of the threads. Its there in forum mode.

      The other one works great!

Also, I use an [xfloat] bbcode so I can float text around images. This seems to work great in the header namespace but the image does not display in the actual wiki forum. Ever run into this?

The "no text in this page" messages should be fixable if you go to the Wiki URL Manager and click '[Rebuild Page URLs]'.

If these threads were in a forum before installing VaultWiki, then this was probably one of the bugs we fixed in the most recent beta. Still, I wouldn't recommend installing the beta on a live board.

As for the xfloat BB-Code, I'm not familiar with how it works. Is there a replacement text or PHP function for it that you can post? Also let me know if you're using Simple Wiki URLs.

Sorry it took me so long to respond to this, I really love the product. I do a fundraiser every year between the 1st of Jan and the 15th of May so that is all over an now I am back. The [Rebuild Page URLs] worked great but I got a list of conficts, the message below is an example. That page still shows the "no text" message.

Two or more pages in the wiki have the URL /showwiki.php?title=Crimson+King. Since only the first version will be visible, you should modify the live page to reflect the content all the pages.
The xfloat BBCODE is just a little thing that makes text wrap around images, here it is.

[xFLOAT=left]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/3/3e/Magic_Pot_FFX.jpg/65px-Magic_Pot_FFX.jpg[/xFLOAT]blah, blah, blah, yada, yada, yakety yak
Other than that, we are looking great so far, thanks for the help.

I was going to edit the above but can't find the button on the new version. LOL

It is funny about the x-float because it works fine in the articles, just the headers have a problem with it. And the headers are fine in their own forum but not when acting as the header for the wiki forum.

EDIT--Oops, there it is. My browser must have not been done building.

I wanted to mention my site is www.thedarktower.com/palaver if you want to check out how we are using them.

Towerpedia forum is one of them.

If you're still using VaultWiki 2.5.7, I recommend upgrading now when you are able. Version 3 is gold now, and it has almost 1000 bug fixes since 2.5.7. So quite a few.

Also, thanks to some extra hired hands recently, we've updated the manual with plenty of pictures. Once you're on the newest release, if you weren't sure how to deal with your page conflicts, see this page: http://www.vaultwiki.org/manual/Managing-Page-Conflicts

Do you have an example link to where x-float isn't working correctly? Thanks.

      Sure, the link is:

      http://www.thedarktower.com/palaver/...play.php?f=124

You can see the code at the top. Like I said, it works great in the header forum so I'm not sure why it doesn't show well there.

I still have not done the upgrade though, hoping to get to that tomorrow. It may solve the issue.

There is no header appearing in that forum for guests or registered users.

      Really?

That must be some kind of forum permission. I will check it out. Guests should certainly be able to see it.

Well, I can't seem to see where to make that happen.

I changed your usergroup for your sign on over to something that should be able to see it. I'll mess with the other thing later. Any ideas on how to make that happen?

I noticed that you were actually in the "awaiting email confirmation" group as opposed to registered users but I would still like even guests to be able to see that header. Is it maybe because I have the forum the headers are in hidden?
