German Language Pack for VaultWiki 2.3.1

This is the German Language pack for VaultWiki 2.3.1. Though this doesn't yet come up to the current VaultWiki 2.5.x series, for those still using 2.3.1 it will work fine, and I suspect (though I'm not certain) that it will add a large chunk of German Language to VaultWiki 2.5.x while I work on getting my team to put together the latest changes.

Installation

Installation is as per any normal vBulletin language pack.

First, always Backup your database, and close the forum while performing the install.

Extract the file and then upload to your vBulletin installation via the Language and Phrases > Download / Upload Languages section of the Admin Control Panel.

If you have the German Language pack already installed for your main vBulletin install, you will need to set the Overwrite Language to that German Pack (it won't delete the old data).

Set Ignore Language Version to yes, as this was done using vBulletin 3.8.3, but should work fine on later versions of the 3.8.x series of vBulletin.

Note

The only word of warning in installing this is to make a note of the directory any German Language buttons are in. On my forum I use this system (includes style changes):

images/buttons/german/<#>

Whatever you setup that works on your forum, keep a note of it, as that is usually where things go wrong in installing language packs.

Final Comments

We believe the file will work well, and that all phrases are translated correctly. If we find any mistakes, we'll update this thread, and as we add to it for the later versions of VaultWiki, we'll keep you posted.

We're working on this atm, but it has been noted that there are errors if trying to edit a page using this language pack in version 2.5.5 of VaultWiki. I believe this is because it translates some of the URL features and will therefore throw a wobbly until we get this updated.

However, for browsing the entries, all works fine.

What kind of errors? Perhaps this is something that needs to be worked out on our end.

Keep in mind that currently, except for Special pages, the Wiki language is still static and doesn't change with the language chooser along with the rest of the board.

For the issues you mentioned above, you can download 2.5.6 as of my post and they should be fixed. Since it's now been 24 hours since its release, further updates will be carried over to the next build.

Yes. This mod's thread wasn't really the right place to be posting bug fixes, so I just edited my post to suggest an update, which includes those fixes.

Yeah, that is the plan. I've got to spend some time getting vB4 working fine for my site, then the guys who've created the German pack should be able to get something together for it...

I've got some files that are an update to the older version VaultWiki2 pack, just need to check them over, but version 3 is under way. I'll check with the lead translator to see how his translation is coming.

Curious if you're using a special vBulletin mod to make translating a little smoother. If you can link me to the mod, or create a Tutorial about translating VaultWiki, it would probably help a number of people.

Not at the moment, been copying and pasting sections to the two translators working on translation (one doing German, the other Italian), cos they're not admins, and so not got access to translation direct. (It's a long job... even trying to get Excel to do work in any sort of help.)

I've looked over a couple of those mods, but I've come across issues with a translation I got for vB4 on my board, where the mod seems to have pushed some of the phrases into the wrong sections... which has been a pain to fix.

The status atm is a third done with the Italian, and German the translator was merging all the changes from this version of VW (2.3.1) and checking to see if there have been any mistakes or changes, and has been doing some of the newer phrases. Having said that, I may end up looking into using one of the mods...

I'll see what I can put together that I've learned from this, but if the translator is an admin use the phrase manager, or the owner of VW then use the master language file. Anyone else it'll end up being copy and paste.
