      Importing from MediaWiki

      Hi, very interested in VaultWiki. I'm currently using MediaWiki piped through to VB using vbWikiPro. Due to recent upgrades mediawiki/vbWikiPro has stopped working (and Nuhit seem to have disappeared) so I'm hoping to be able to use VaultWiki. I read elsewhere that importing MediaWiki info is going to be possible in a future edition of VaultWiki, can anyone let me know when that's likely to be? I really don't fancy copying and pasting all the info so if I have to wait I have to wait

      Many thanks
      Dave

      Yes, we plan on releasing MediaWiki importability some time in the future. Although we are close, there is no ETA for this at the current time.

      However, some users have been able to request this type of import when ordering a professional setup of VaultWiki, even though the public importer is not yet complete. In these cases, when creating namespaces and setting up config options, a staff member would also manually transfer the MediaWiki data using some of the processes that we still consider to be in beta.

      The newest version of VaultWiki (2.5.2) contains an import option from MediaWiki. However, this option is still considered beta.

      When importing from MediaWiki - previous article revisions will be lost; only the most recent revision is imported. This was done to reduce load - we found that attempting to import wikis with many thousands of revisions had a negative effect on server performance during the import - some servers reacted similarly to a DoS attack.

      For similar reasons, if you are currently running vBWiki Pro and your article discussions are contained in threads, the threads are not automatically merged to the article. You can still merge them yourself using vBulletin's inline moderation tools.

      Hello!

      I am about to import a MediaWiki installation.
      It doesn't have that many articles (under 40) and not that many images.

      Are the instructions still the same?

      For example, in the VaultWiki Wiki Importer tool inside vB Admin CP it says:
      Make sure you have the following addons installed:

      * VaultWiki Categories
      * VaultWiki Images
      I tried installing the Categories addon, yet it threw an error.
      I disabled it, and it worked.

      Yet I see that the current VaultWiki has a Category Namespace and an Image Namespace.

      Should I use those?

      Much thanks! Very much appreciated!

      I read that addons like vaultwiki categories and images .... were automatically included in vW3, so no need to add them on.

      The manual hasn't been updated for v3 yet because it's still in beta and a lot is changing with every release. As InformationNirvana mentioned, you don't need to install categories and images in version 3, because as you noticed, you already had the namespaces. Make sure you complete the other configuration steps (make sure they both have forums) before importing.

      Ok, I just realized I have no idea how to deal with the name spaces.
      I am referencing Introduction to Namespaces.

      Admin CP --> VaultWiki --> Namespace Manager

      Namespace Functions --> how do I select from the drop-down menus?
      I created two new forums... how do I "attribute" them?

      Sorry... kinda lost.
      Thanks for the help!

      You can attribute the forums by clicking "Edit" next to a namespace. It will ask you for a forum to store articles in, sometimes referred to as Top-Level forum. Select the forum you created here.

      Hello!

      I think we might be making progress towards completing the import!

      I went to the Import in VaultWiki, and then did the following:
      1> imported the data from the original mediaWiki installation (( used mwpt prefix ))
      2> provided the URL of the installation
      3> provided the folder in the server (( /home/comoesta/... ))

      On Step 3, Titled: Importing MediaWiki Data, it threw this:

      Code:
      Database error in vBulletin 4.0.1:

      Invalid SQL:

      			SELECT page.page_id AS import_page_id, page.page_namespace AS namespaceid,
      				page.page_title AS title, rev.rev_user AS userid, rev.rev_user_text AS ipaddress,
      				rev.rev_timestamp AS dateline, txt.old_text AS pagetext, txt.old_flags AS flags,
      				thread.import_page_id AS isimported,
      				usr.user_name AS username
      			FROM page AS page
      			LEFT JOIN revision AS rev ON (rev.rev_page = page.page_id)
      			LEFT JOIN text AS txt ON (txt.old_id = rev.rev_text_id)
      			LEFT JOIN thread AS thread ON (thread.import_page_id = page.page_id)
      			LEFT JOIN user AS usr ON (usr.user_id = rev.rev_user)
      			WHERE page.page_namespace NOT IN (1,3,4,5,7,8,9,11,12,13,15)
      			GROUP BY page.page_id
      			ORDER BY rev.rev_timestamp
      			LIMIT 0,50;

      Hi, it would appear that MediaWiki Import was broken in this beta phase. Please see the following: http://www.vaultwiki.org/projectsear...ssuereportid=2
      The most recent issues are relevant.

      We should have fixed most of the issues for Beta 4.
