what is the relationship between Mediawiki and Vaultwiki ?

Obviously the look of Vaultwiki is similar to Mediawiki.
And both Mediawiki and Vaultwiki have Namespaces.

Does Vaultwiki have any Mediawiki code ?
or is the look the main similarity ?

VaultWiki was inspired by MediaWiki. We used to use MediaWiki for the CES site, but after a few months, we realized we needed better integration with the forum. After a brief stint trying out vbWiki, we opted to writing our own software.

The look is the main similarity. We also borrow some concepts like Special pages and Categories. VaultWiki also accepts some MediaWiki syntax if Legacy Syntax is set to "MediaWiki".

Despite the similarities, all of the code was freshly written for VaultWiki.

Is it hard to get the actual page to display ? Now *THAT* would be wiki/forum integration !
