      Am I retarded?

So I purchased the wiki a few weeks ago put it off to fix some other things on the site, etc. and today I decided to sit down and do it and I've always felt myself pretty computer/vBulletin saavy but this software has me completely befuddled. Tried reading the guide and such but I don't get namespaces and how to even get the wiki on my site because every time I try to do something it tells me I can't.

I just want to designate a forum on my site as a wiki and start making my own pages. Can someone explain to me what namespaces are, how I link things, and all that?

I like the potential with the product but the instructions for someone who has never used a forum wiki product before seem very poor.

"A namespace is the largest article container in VaultWiki apart from VaultWiki itself. The namespace functionality was added in the first release, then called CES NuWiki Special Pages, and is the basic component on which the rest of the modification builds. A namespace is generally equivalent to any top-level forum with a Vault Type, usually sharing its title and forum ID.

In each namespace, more than one article cannot have the same article title, with the exception of an Island. Every namespace has a unique BB-Code for linking from any article to an article in the BB-Code's namespace."

In VaultWiki 2.1.x, namespaces can be created to your specifications via CES VaultWiki -> Namespace Manager. When adding or editing a namespace, clicking the Question Mark icons will explain each option. If you follow the Installation instructions exactly, you won't have a problem.

In the Forum Manager, if it keeps telling you can't save a forum as Wiki, that's because it's not in a namespace. You have to kind of hop back and forth between the Namespace and Forum Managers when using new forums for your namespaces. This process can be annoying, but it prevents data loss later when you are updating your existing wiki.

All I want to do is have one forum act as the wiki we want.

      So everything is installed properly.

I have a forum named Wiki that I want to contain the wiki. I go to a namespace and add it.

I have to select a random Top-Level forum which doesn't make any sense to me because the forum I want to select isn't allowed because it will make it because 'A namespace cannot be set to appear inside itself.' (whatever that means) so I just pick another one which makes no sense but it allows.

I select the wiki forum for display in forum.

      Save.

Then I go to the wiki forum which I have designated in my namespace and try to enable it as a wiki and my wiki type is wiki (no idea what island is because this software was made for mensa members only). No dice and I get this notice:

"The forum could not be added to the namespace. Create the forum with the Wiki mode disabled, and configure the namespace in the Namespace Manager to include this forum. You can then activate the forum's Wiki mode."

I hate to come off as a dick but this is absolutely the least user friendly software I've ever used in my life. I'm obviously missing some great concept and not grasping the terminology but there has to be an easier way to explain how to make a Wiki in a forum of my choosing.

You are receiving 'A namespace cannot be set to appear inside itself' because you selected a Display in Forum that is a child forum (or the same forum) that you selected for Top Level. Doing this would cause an infinite navigatory loop in your forum hierarchy, so it's not allowed. Leave "Display in Forum" blank for now because it's a more advanced function and it's not a required field.

Select the forum you wanted for "Top Level Forum."

Where Do I Edit These Parts

There are a lot of templates for the wiki so I am looking to find out where to edit these parts of it:

      A Page Background
      B Article Title Text
      C Article Text
D Created by Author, Date Text
      E Comments Link Color
F Article Tab/Active Tab Link Color
      G Thin Border Color

      Thanks.

The CSS is currently contained in the file vault/special.css. We are working on moving this to the database for a future version. If you make any changes here, you should rename your file and put the file name in the "File Name of the CSS File" option in CES VaultWiki's options.

For A, you will want to set a background-color for the CSS class .vw-content, because it is currently set to transparent.

E will match your wiki link colors (different if the target exists), so it depends whether there are comments or not. The .new class controls non-existent pages.

F is controlled by variations of the .p-cactions class.

B, C, and D are physically present in the vault_article_postbit template.
