      questions about product

I couldn't find the right place to ask pre-sales questions, so if this is the wrong place, I apologize.

I guess I'm confused. Is this a bridge that allows you to integrate vbulletin with mediawiki?

Or is this a stand-alone wiki?

      This is a standalone wiki.

Thanks for answering so promptly. It's just that mediawiki has more plugins and gives an almost cms ability in certain ways. Also, it allows you to import/export the database into other databases.

Do you have an import/export feature on VaultWiki? So then I can export it to another site that also has VaultWiki.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this. If you are referring to third-party addons then I would have to agree with you there.

On the other hand, VaultWiki was created with many of the shortfalls of MediaWiki in mind. The first of which was performance. We wanted a wiki that was integrated with vBulletin and that wouldn't take 4 seconds for our server to generate a page.

We have tried to implement as many of the features people were familiar with in MediaWiki as possible, although many of these are only available as addons to VaultWiki to avoid code bloat. Honestly, the idea was to use VaultWiki as a CMS, which at the time development began, wasn't possible to the same extent in MediaWiki (I cannot speak about MediaWiki now, since I have not used it since 1.7).

While there is an import script for NuWiki into VaultWiki, and a planned importer for MediaWiki into VaultWiki, there is currently no backwards exporter, and no exporter to other VaultWiki installations. However, if these are features that you are looking for, they can certainly be submitted as feature requests later.

About 'no exporter' - will VaultWiki contents not be included in the regular Vbulletin database backups??

Well the mod's tables are listed on vBulletin's Backup page in the AdminCP. So technically it should be able to "export" it that way. That said, all the articles exist as threads and posts, so unless a true exporter were made, you would be dumping all your forum's threads and posts.

What I'm trying to ask: when (not 'if') I need to change web host because my board gets too big, will I be able to take the contents of VaultWiki with me as part of a Vbulletin database backup?

Yes, this is possible using the existing vBulletin Database Backup form in the AdminCP.
