What's the purpose of attaching an audio file?

I uploaded an mp3 attachment and was hoping that it would contain an HTML player for it or some sort.
But instead, it just seems rather useless because users cannot listen to the audio file. What's the purpose of doing this? How would I make a way to display an HTML player so it's possible to listen to it?

There is not currently a way to do this. We want to add support for it, but no one has ever requested it before. Please post a feature request.

If you set the mime type appropriately in the wiki's Attachments panel, it might play in the browser rather than downloading it when you click on it. But I have never tried it.
