How do I get a page to look like https://www.vaultwiki.org/ with its multi tabs? I'd like to make the frontpage of my site (or least my wiki) like that?
Also, how do I edit the 1st special page (Catergories/Special Pages etc) to my liking? This person has done a great job: http://www.kordindustries.com/dcwiki/.

To get a page like our home page you'll need some programming expertise and to utilize the tab API in vault/factory/postbit.php. It is not documented, but if you understand PHP you should see the gist if you search for construct_tabs.
You can replace the home page with a wiki page if you want, so that you can edit it the normal way, but you will lose the search box (A). Otherwise, if you want to keep the search box, and only want admins to edit it (B).
A:
- Create a wiki page that you will use as the front page.
- Copy the URL into AdminCP > Settings > Options > VaultWiki: Server Settings > Replace Wiki Tab with URL?
B:
- Modify the template vault_search_noid
