Pegasus can you give a new time frame for VaultWiki 4.0 the milestone says it overdue, what is the estimate target date at the moment.
Please note that although VaultWiki 4 Alpha 1 was scheduled for tomorrow, we ran into unexpected delays moving the server (back on April 1) and are now roughly 2 days behind. At this time, we still expect to release it before the end of the week.
Would this beta be compatiable with xenforo?
Pegasus can you provide us with new dates for Alpha 1 testing and what Moses asked will it be compatible with Xenforo and IPS.
I can't provide an exact date for Alpha 1 now. We slated it for earlier this month to coincide with the new CKeditor in vBulletin 4.1.3 but they have delayed that feature until at least 4.1.4. It doesn't make sense for us to release a major product version so soon before a major change like this in vBulletin, just to release a new alpha so quickly once it does. VW 4 Alpha 1 will be released on or around the release of vB 4.1.4, provided that actually contains the new editor.
This delay has given us extra time to work on optimization and other framework updates that we weren't originally planning for Alpha 1.
As has been previously mentioned, XenForo will not be supported before Alpha 2, and IPS not before Alpha 3. Since it is really going to be an Alpha version (we've changed everything about how VaultWiki works), we want to make sure the core works as intended before releasing the extensions for other forums and complicating things.
So it sounds like lots of changes are coming... Will it affect any of our "data" in the wiki?
At this point, we intend to move most data to the new format. Certain features will be easier to use; in most cases this just means you will have to learn the new (easier) way.
Some data will be lost, because these features don't exist in VaultWiki 4 Alpha 1:
- Polls that are on articles
- Ratings on articles
- Post history (for comments) / moderation logs
- Thread prefixes, but will be merged onto the title
- Domain Manager settings
- User access masks for wiki forums
- maybe more, this is all I remember right now
Give me an example of Thread prefixes merged into the title?
https://www.vaultwiki.org/demo/test-prefix-DVD
here, the article uses the "DVD" prefix. It has title "test prefix".
In VaultWiki 4, the title would be "test prefix (DVD)", which as you see by the autolink, is equivalent.
Thanks for the update Pegasus.
Its really annoying that vBulletin keeps postpone the new editor. It will be a major upgrade so everything that uses the editor should be effected.
okay, so I am really ignorant pegasus... Could you look at my wiki http://www.kordindustries.com and give me an example of something on mine?
If you don't know what it is, then you don't use them, and you won't be affected by that particular change.
There is a section in the vBulletin AdminCP where you create "Thread Prefixes" and add them to "Prefix Sets". These Prefix Sets can be applied on a per-forum basis so that users can (or must, depending on your config) pick one of the admin-defined prefixes when they create a new thread. It is mainly used as another level of organization within a given forum.
Sweet! Thanks for the info and keep up the good work! I look forward to the next version!
vBulletin released 4.1.4 CKeditor yesterday. We will be adding support for 3.0.12 and integrating it into 4.0.0 Alpha 1 as well. We will have 4 out as soon as we can, but of course the priority is updating the current version.
will this version (3.0.12) work with old vB (4.1.2)?
Are there any plans to integrate VW4 with Joomla?
Pegasus when can we expect version 4 it has been postponed a few times now and i think more people are waiting.
According to the update tracker thingy, Alpha is close to completion, but beta won't be released (projected) end of September...
Now a year later, the alpha is looking nice, but there is still a lot of work to be done.
I would be surprised if its released this year. Is this impression correct?
^bump
The alpha would have been released already if not for our recent displacement for the better part of a month. Really the only work that needs to be done, including a number of suggestions you yourself made, are minor template and phrase changes. I don't foresee much progress being made this week, due to the holiday.
So you are saying that VW4 alpha vbulletin will be available this year?
VaultWiki 4 Beta 5 either today or tomorrow. Just have to package and update upgrade instructions.
Any roadmap for the IPB version of Vaultwiki?
Thanks
Storyteller
Beta 5 is available as of this morning. Sorry for the way-too-early post above. When that was posted, I didn't realize we hadn't yet written the upgrade script for Beta 5 (which, as you'll find out, is somewhat extensive).
When can we expect beta 8?
What can we expect for beta 8?
Is it your aim to make beta 8 production ready for vbulletin?
A version that can be installed on live sites will result in a lot of testing and bug finding, which will allow VW to make a significant leap forward.
Pegasus: could you share your plans with us?
What is functionality is slated for the next release?
At what stage will you feature lock vaultwiki, work towards gold and then keep working out the bugs?
As you know I am anticipating some of the functions that are planned and will upgrade as soon as VW4 offers a feature set that is significantly more valuable than VW3. I guess a lot of webmasters will migrate only once there are enough compelling reasons.
At the same time there also is a lot of value in getting a stable Gold release out, which will be good for VW3 users to migrate towards. Once that happens VW4 will be used a lot more and a lot more bugs will be discovered.
Previously with VW3 we had a time where there was a continuous flux of new bugs being found and new features being added. This had the problem that there was not a release that was almost bug free. It would be valuable if VW4 will be different and if we will see a normal release schedule where new features are only added to 4.X releases, and bug fixes continue in minor releases until no more bugs are reported.
