need tabbed threads
hello,
i have contacted members of your staff in the past years(under handle bnich82) regarding a need for "tabbed threads" and was told it basically COULD be done as a custom job...
i am wishing to finally implement this idea asap....i realize it is still too soon, but am seeking a definite verification so i know if i need to source another coder or not...
it seems best to wait for your newest release and also i am with vb5 which is not ready either so those are the main delays...
what i require tho are customizable tabbed topics with separate permissions...and support for upgrades
vb5 forums and threads are already tabbed,(topics, latest activity, my subscriptions, photo) (posts, latest activity) ideally i would wish to custom add tabs to this area, but if neccesary i would be willing to work with the wiki software..
i have not tested your new releases, perhaps you have already integrated an idea like this?
a typical thread might be like:
main tab for author only posting
discussion tab open to all member posting
a private tab only visible and readable by a members usergroup but author only posting
then in some cases a custom tab, perhaps like a technical area allowing member or usergroup posting..
there are a few things going on in there i know, so wondering what you guys think and if you would be willing..
thank you,
Ig

Hi,
There is a way to add custom content tabs to certain wiki pages (see our home page: https://www.vaultwiki.org/ and look at the top for also Overview, Features, Screenshots, etc), however right now it requires users to manually make the separate tabs and link them with a plugin (location vw_tab_factory).
We have a plan to make adding wiki pages as tabs faster and easier, but right now it is not a main priority.
You can probably do something like this with wiki Discussions. It would be short work to have a plugin that just creates new tabs for every discussion on a page. It would probably need a new hook location and a way to set permissions for Topics (which is planned but not implemented).
But even so, you said you have vBulletin 5, which we are not in a rush to support. Adoption for vB5 has been low, so it is not a profitable venture to support it at this time.

thanks for the reply,
im wondering like on this page https://www.vaultwiki.org/pages/Imag...ory-screen-jpg
there is already a discussion tab, but to be able custom add the others to there...
i have a vb4 too, but im changing everything to vb5...it has been painful so far, lol, but the cms is coming back with 5.1.0 and many bug fixes/functionality issues..which im hoping will be release by end of the month...then theres some other core formatting issues which got pushed to 5.1.1 but im hoping things will be alot different by then..
its no wonder people arent using vb5 for production atm, even vb staff does not recommend it, but when it is ready i think it will be great improvements, i can def see the potential already..just hoping it doesnt drag out too much longer :/
thanks again, maybe i will check back later or something...gonna hire a coder to try some things after 5.1.0 is released, but maybe could also hire you too or something if he has issues down the road...im sure you keep busy just see later on whats up i guess..
