Since we don't have drag-and-drop support yet, the easiest way is to know an existing image URL and wrap it in IMG tags.
If you need to upload an image, you need to click the golden FILE icon to open the File Browser, then click the +New Attachment button to access the uploader.
Easier uploading and drag-drop support is a major focus of the next branch after 4.1 (whose focus was XF2 only).
Is there any way I can show the attachment as an image instead of a link? The reason I don't want to use the img tag is because it is forcing me to use an image uploaded on a different server rather than my own.
I tried uploading the image as an attachment and use it in the img tag but it didn't work.
In your area settings, for "Parse the following in pages", make sure "Images" are selected. If they are not, and only "BB-Code" is selected, then the IMG tag will show as a link.
