    2. Upgrading VaultWiki

This page is a chapter in VW4 Install Manual
From time to time, it will be necessary to upgrade your VaultWiki installation to the latest version, either to gain new features or to fix newly discovered bugs in PHP, MySQL, your forum software, or VaultWiki itself.

You can upgrade to the latest version of VaultWiki from any previous version. Keep in mind that the older your current version is, the more changes will be made during an upgrade.

When upgrading, the first step is always the same, in that you must log-in to the Members' Area at https://www.vaultwiki.org/members/ and download the latest VaultWiki package.

Warning:We strongly recommend that you back up your database prior to any upgrade. Please consult your server administrator if you need help with this process.

Warning:When upgrading from VaultWiki Lite to the full release, make sure to download the complete package for the upgrade and not a patch. Attempting an upgrade with a mixture of Lite and full release files will corrupt your wiki database.

Warning:These instructions are for upgrading from VaultWiki 4 and later versions. If you are upgrading from VaultWiki 3 or earlier, please refer to this blog post for the proper upgrade procedure: https://www.vaultwiki.org/blogs/56/
