Here are the steps I follow testing out a new release for upgrade and import from VW3 to VW4:
[LIST=1]
[*] If installed: Uninstall VW4
[*] If installed: Remove all VW4 directories in the Vault directory, including the install dir.
[*] Disable VW3
[*] edit config and import file
[*] Upload the files of the new build.
[*] If you use Xcache, restart PHP to clear it. Make sure the cache prefix in vBulletin's config file is unique.
[*] Install here: /vault/install/index.php
[*] Check vBulletin's BB-Code Manager and make sure the wiki BB-Codes still have the same names you've been using. If they don't, rename them. Make sure that all the wiki BB-Codes have a "Unique Tag Key" under "Wiki-Related Options". If they don't, something went wrong already and you will need to report the broken BB-Codes.
[*] If you have Debug Mode on, go to Settings > VaultWiki: Untouchable Settings > ID of the System Area. Make sure this has a number filled in. If it's blank, get the ID for "System" from the Area Manager (it will be in the heading when you Edit it), and fill it in.
[*] Import.
[*] In navigation set Area Contents Per Page to same number as Number of Previewed Area Contents.
[*] Open large popular wiki and check:
- bb codes
- editor icons
[*] Change table bbcode -
+[*] Set wiki bbcodes to wiki code group in bb code manager
-
[*] Only for final import: Delete bb codes: book, redirect
[*] set permissions
[*] check redirects and special pages
[*] check comments
[*] check main page
[*] configure sidebar blocks
[*] check styling
[*] Report all bugs
[*] Wait for new build
[*] Go to 1
