      Broken Links Maintenance Report

After import of VW3 I see that we have many broken links in our wiki. We could try to fix these through community effort or mass management tool. But I have no clue how to find them all.

Please add a special page for broken link maintenance report.
For internal links and external links. (could be separate reports)

The maintenance report for broken wiki links is Special:WantedPages, which lists links using any of the wiki-related BB-Codes.

That page does not seem to exist.
But I mean broken links in general. Not just wiki bb codes.
Links to anywhere on the site or off the site.

For links in general, you are better off looking at your server's access logs for 404 errors.

The Special:WantedPages page requires that Options > VaultWiki: Wiki Links > Enable Link Tracking is turned on. If you don't keep track of where wiki links are pointing, then there is no information to base its calculations on, and there is no point to it existing.

I have 5000-10000 users online at any moment. 125000 per day. Plus bots trying all kinds of things. My error logs are always full. I still have a lot of work to do on that front. But even without issues XenForo creates a lot of errors. For example for unsuccessful attachment uploads or just for not having flash on your site. The error log is not very useful.

What I am hoping for something similar to this:
      https://xenforo.com/community/resour...ddonslab.5579/
      https://xenforo.com/community/resour...nagement.4193/

Something that checks if the URL links in wiki content are valid. This will allow our community to fix those links.

Wiki's have a lot of links for references and cross linking. Users are simply used to copying links and adding those into the article. Thats why we have so many showwiki links in our articles.
Users also need to link to non-vaultwiki content types link forum, media, resources, XF help pages, articles, blogs, reviews, showcases, social groups. Once that on site content is deleted then the link is dead.
References / footnotes in Vaultwiki go dead all the time. We started our wiki 10 years ago. its safe to say that nearly half the references will be dead. Almost all websites go offline in time.

Having a wiki is a major enhancement for a website. For users and for SEO. But not if its full of dead links. Then its a burden SEO wise.
Its a natural problem that will present itself sooner or later for any wiki. It would be great to have a solution to this.

Ah, okay. A dead-link tracker, for links posted inside a wiki page or comment, is a reasonable request. However, it would be a relatively major addition, so I don't know when it could be addressed.

I thought you were asking for a tool that will show all dead links in regular forum posts and even off-site links, and try to guess if maybe once upon a time the links were wiki-related. That would have been out of scope and more suitable as a separate add-on or just by reviewing your logs.

Since the import from VW3 to VW4 my wiki has a mass of dead links. I don't know where to begin.
A tool that would highlight / report all dead links would be a real help to fix this. Because then I have a list to work on.

While gardening open feature requests, I have discovered that this is a duplicate of another request: https://www.vaultwiki.org/issues/4514/
      Please continue any discussion there.

Is it possible to merge the requests?
