Embed/Use Forum Threads on Wiki Pages

      Hi again Pegasus!

Right now each wiki page uses its own thread(s). They look like XF forum threads, but they're actually just a special commenting system.

I think it would promote more forum AND wiki activity if the wiki pages could have the option of using existing threads from the forums. Say for example you have a wiki page for Pikachu. When you go to Pikachu's wiki page, you could see a forum thread on the bottom that's from the forum's "General Pokemon" discussion forum. So when people are on the wiki page, they're actually using the forums and can even more directly visit the forums because they see this Pikachu page is using a forum topic.

Furthermore, on the forum end, people could click the Pikachu thread and be taken to the Pikachu wiki page with the forum thread on the bottom. This way the forum users see there's a wiki and can participate in editing it. It makes for much more dynamic forum content since some forum threads can essentially be entire wiki pages with discussions under them.

It would also be cool if additional topics could be created on the wiki, then spun off to a forum thread that the wiki page still links to.

      What do you think?

Oh, and there should probably also be an option to hide threads older than X amount on the wiki pages so visitors don't think the wiki is dead. And maybe they can click to reveal the old discussions if they want to see them.

Any meaningful discussion about wiki editing is already going on in the forums. Since going live last September my members have posted 4 comments on my big board with 250k active accounts. By way of comparison: my members posted 3400 wiki comments on Vaultwiki 3.

How did VW 3 work with commenting?

Also sounds like you have a large wiki! Can you post the link here so I can check it out?

It was the same way with commenting in VaultWiki 3, in that you had to visit the wiki page to view them; however, you could find new wiki comments in the New Posts function, and it was only possible to have a single discussion going per wiki page. In the back-end, forum threads were used for the whole thing (page + discussion being a single thread), but it was presented the same way it is today; the wiki areas were the forums the threads were in, so it would not have been an improvement on your current predicament (existing forums with related threads).

When VaultWiki 4 was designed, vBulletin 4 was already being demoed with a unified activity stream, so the loss of the New Posts integration was deemed acceptable. The areas were moved away from the forums because as stated before, vBulletin made it a nightmare to do that way, and users had found it confusing to do it that way. However, a year later, XenForo came out and it had no unified activity, although it was easier to use forums/threads.

On VW3 we had various wiki forums which would each display the latest wiki threads. A click on new posts included wiki threads. When a user clicked on such thread, they were taken to the wiki discussion thread which worked great in the sense that members would always see the latest wiki discussion.

Hi Pegasus! Do you know yet if you can consider doing this, and when it might possibly be implemented if so? Thank you man!
