It would be nice to have a sidebar-block for featured content/pages/feeds/books...

The question is how would you decide what is "featured"?

I think the way I wanted to do this is by using feeds. Select a "featured" feed for the sidebar block. The most recent items in the feed show up as "featured" in the block. But you can't put feeds in other feeds, so you can't feature one like this.

You could also feature "New" content or "Highly rated" content (ratings not available yet). We could make blocks that work like that.

Administrators and Moderators decide what is "featured" ;-)

What we need is the same as in all content types in XenForo:
admin or moderator can Feature or Unfeature an article through article tools or area overview moderator actions.
Featured articles display at the top of the area and on the portal page.

      Examples:
      Featured resources: https://xenforo.com/community/resources/
      Featured Social Groups: https://nobita.me/groups/
      Featured Threads: https://theadminzone.com/
Features Articles: http://www.pc-sg.uk/ (the news slider)

What we do not need for this is feeds because it makes Vaultwiki overly complex and hard to explain to our users.

And it would be PERFECT, when it would possible to use vaultwiki with this XF-Addon for creating a portal-page:

Definitely would like to see this happen. Using more of XenForo's built-in tools instead of re-inventing the wheel.

Thank you @Alfa1 for the clarification on this feature.

However, for the record and to anyone here who implied otherwise, XenForo does NOT provide a "featured threads" feature by default for any of its core content-types, nor does it provide any kind of generic system for featuring content. It is necessary for every add-on to design its own "featured content" system. This is added for resources in XenResources, and possibly also for media in XenMediaGallery.

That's why I suggested using feeds, because the feature already exists in VaultWiki since 4.0.0, was designed to basically do exactly what you are asking, and honestly it's not THAT more complicated than clicking a direct "feature" link. The only part that's missing from the OP is the option to have it as a sidebar block rather than a banner block.

      1. Establish an empty "Featured Articles" feed on your wiki index or area of choice (this only needs to be done once).

      2. In the article you want in the feed, go to Options > Promote on a Feed (feel free to change this text to "Feature this Article"). OR, if your wiki has the "Share This Page" sidebar block active, the "Promote" button is right there.
      3. Select your "Features Articles" feed, and submit.
      4. You're done already.

If this does not "feature" the articles on the index or area page, then there are bugs in the implementation.

Since there are no "built-in tools" in XenForo to do this already, this method is as valid as any other. The only improvements I can possibly see are:
      - Have VaultWiki provide a featured feed by default as an index/area option (so an admin doesn't have to create it first).
      - Have a shortcut to add an article to that feed (to skip the extra "Choose a feed" dialog).
      - Improve the style of the featured feed for this purpose (I think it looks like a ticker box right now).

These changes would make "featuring" wiki content a little more straightforward, and more consistent in feel with the way it works in XenResources.

I am not interested in that solution. We will consider to have an addon developed. We just need the very same implementation as XenForo Resource Manager or Brogan's(Xenforo staff) Featured Threads. Because that implementation feels native to xenforo and is also used in Showcase, Article management System, Reviews Management System, User Blogs System, Social Groups, Jeremy's (Xenforo staff) FS Events, etc, etc. We dont want to offer new functionality for the same thing. Wiki Feeds are turned off.

This suggestion appears to be moot now that XenForo 2.3 has native featured content, as well as the Featured Content widget type where you can choose to only show featured wiki pages.
