Status of Promoting Threads/Posts to Wiki?

      Hello,

Just wondering when this feature will be added? This feature is about the only thing we have been waiting for to utilize VaultWiki. If you could give some idea of timeline that would be great!

      Thanks!

We haven't forgotten about this. It's a major point of regression since VaultWiki 3. It is the first new feature at the top of my to-do list, after a small number of bugs, and the plan has been to include it in 4.0.16 (version due Dec 25). However, there are a number of sub-features that this relies on that I may need to finish first in order to handle the various threads that someone might try to copy/move:
      - Handling of open vs closed threads, and a comparable feature for wiki content
      - The ability to add non-wiki attachments to wiki content

This feature also will provide the base needed for other features to be completed:
      - The ability to promote blogs and CMS articles
      - The ability to suggest threads/posts for conversion
      - The ability to move a forum thread to become a discussion under the wiki page

Depending on how time goes as we get closer to December 25 (I have jury duty this month), this feature might not be completed in time, or it might be completed with attachments being converted to wiki attachments for the time being. If it's not completed in time, then it will definitely be completed for 4.0.17, as there is nothing in the queue ahead of it.

      I should follow-up, since version 4.0.16 is now past-due.

I am currently working on this request almost exclusively. This function will be included in 4.0.16, however in the interest of time, it will have the following limitations (to be resolved probably in 4.0.17):
      • It will only be possible to convert threads into wiki pages and wiki pages into threads. The first release will not have support for converting individual posts, discussions, comments, etc to another content-type. However, any posts, discussions, etc underneath the converted thread/page will still be converted. Also, in the first release, it should still be possible to convert an individual post into a wiki page by first moving the source post to a new thread that only contains that post, then converting said thread to a wiki page.
      • Attachments on the first post of a thread will be converted to wiki files that are embedded in the wiki page body.
      • Polls and poll votes will be lost.
      • Ratings will be lost.
      • Existing view counters will be reset.
      • Post edit history of replies will be lost.
      • Reputation given for replies/comments will be lost.

I will continue to post updates until this request is completed for all of Threads, Posts, and Wiki Pages with support for the above missing items. I believe there are already requests for Wiki Discussions, Wiki Comments, Blogs, and some other types. Types other than these should be given separate requests.

As of 1/1/2017, the front-end and back-end code (so far at least 6500 lines) for the basic functionality of this feature has been completed. Once it passes a few rounds of testing, it will be released.

Reversing the conversion (demoting wiki pages to forum threads) has been pushed to a future release, due to lack of time to QA.
The forward conversion (forum threads -> wiki pages) has completed about 90% of testing.

Thus, I expect 4.0.16 to only support converting Forum Threads into Wiki Pages (which is all the OP requests).

4:30 PM - This passes QA on XenForo.

Once the rest of 4.0.16 passes, it will be released.

Marking this as Implemented in 4.0.16. It appears in the changelog under Bug Fixes, since this feature was a regression. While there are related open regressions, this report is closed because the description in the OP is satisfied. As mentioned earlier, related regressions will be addressed in a future release.
