      Case statement
Case would be useful in template design

We are writing up templates to manage formal citations for our articles and the person doing the work has asked if it would be possible to get a CASE statement in addition to the IF statement.

It would, of course, take one of the template parameters as its code index and select the desired text based on the value passed in that parameter.

I don't think there's much need for a CASE statement. While I suppose it boils down to personal preference, anything you would do with the CASE statement is already possible with IF. Not only that, but adding another conditional construct would only slow down template parsing more.

As I'm sure you've done by now, just advise your template editors that IF should be used for this, and that nesting ELSE ... IF should be avoided since the same effect can be achieved with 2 IFs which will parse faster.
