      Duplicate Image Data

      Hiya,

I've just installed the images addon and have been playing around with it, and there are a couple of things confusing me.

      1) It seems to duplicate images into both the attachments folder and the wiki images folder. This doubles the disk space wiki images require. Not good.

      2) I cannot for the life of me get the image to display on a page using the code in the readme. It only ever uses the caption text as a link to the image namespace page.

I have also noticed that my wiki thumbnail folder is empty, despite being 777.

      Any ideas?

      1) We are aware that the mod duplicates content. That has been satisfactory up until this point only because thumbnail creation was not guaranteed and we are looking into a way of eliminating that extra content as it actually causes some inline moderation issues, if you can believe that.

      2) The mod will display the image as a link if the thumbnail is missing. It is possible that your server cannot create thumbnails for some file types. Try using a file with a different extension (for example I think our server can only convert .gif to thumbnails). Unfortunately this is not something the mod can control.

      3) Also your paths could have been wrong. The vBulletin path should not point to the images folder. It should point to the vBulletin root. The other paths are relative to this path. This was the problem in your case. This could also be the reason the thumbnail creation failed. You would have to delete the image page and re-create it to try again.

I wondered who the hell that other admin logged on to my site was for a minute... it's you! doh.

It's a simple jpg that works fine using normal attachments. Thumbnails created etc.

If it doesn't work with jpgs the mod isn't much use to me.

It looks like your server can do jpgs as they work with standard attachment uploads. I was referring to the fact that some servers do not have various function packages installed. As I mentioned above, I have fixed your paths, so the mod should be able to create and find its thumbnails. For the next build we will look into freeing up the mod to use the existing image attachments and thumbnails.

Okay, it's now saving the thumbnails, but the images still aren't working because the image code uses relative URLs which don't work if your main vbulletin directory is not at the root of your domain.

The image link in the code is

      /images/wiki instead of /main/images/wiki

If I change it in options it breaks the paths again. Perhaps it would be good to prefix this path with the forum url?

Indeed doing so in the template fixes the problem.

If we attempt to use the attachment system only to eliminate duplicate images, then 1 file edit is required, because default vBulletin does not support setting a thumbnail height that is different from its width.
