      Special New Pages Permissions error
No access even when settings are for yes for the New Pages list

When trying to access New Pages on the Special section, I get this error:

____,you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

      1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
      2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
I've tried resetting the newpages option, but still no success.

This seems to be permissions related... as detailed in my new bug post... as setting the Admin permissions to custom allows me access, but reverting to default (even though no changes) doesn't.

If a user doesn't have permissions to view any particular namespace, a no permission error will occur on the Special page, if the Special page attempts to list articles from the namespace.

If no namespace was specified, it will automatically use the Default namespace. In your case, you had lost permissions for the Default namespace, so you lost permissions for the default Special action.

This is an issue with Special pages overall, as long as they search by namespace, and would require a rewrite to practically every one. This is flagged for the 3.x series.

Thanks matey, I'll make sure the work around mentioned in the other thread is carried through.

If you don't have permission to view the Default namespace, what would the Special page listings default to? My only good idea is that it should cycle them by Display Order until it finds a namespace the user has permission for.

This is probably the only practical solution, although I find the entire scenario impractical where the admin intentionally denies users access to the Default area, yet allows them access to specialized areas. Maybe this is the case in forums that set up numerous private namespaces intended for different usergroups, and they treat the "default" setting as arbitrary.

Fixed for the next build. If no namespace is specified, the page will attempt to use the Default namespace, then other namespaces in order of Display Order, and finally namespaces with Display Order 0. If all those fail, the user will then be presented with the no permission message.
