Import/Export Manual Mode and Xenforo Phrases (missing/not loaded)

and duplicated areas when import is rerun after database error

The form button in the Manual Mode for Importing external wiki data (in my case, from MediaWiki) displays a line of text which looks like an Xenforo phrase should appear , but it doesn't. Instead the button displays text like:

Also, I've ended up with duplicated Areas (two-three per namespace) due to an import/config/vw.php config problem where I didn't alter the $source['on'] value to true causing a table not found database error and the import to stop. Should there be some kind of check here to avoid this problem of duplicate Areas being created?

There is such a check, but it only applies within the "same import". Imports are currently considered different based on the database they are coming from. While source = off, the source database is the target database (like if you had uploaded your MW tables via phpmyadmin into the same database with your XF tables). If you ended up with duplicates, you should use Wiki Admin Panel > Maintenance > URL Conflicts to identify and manage the duplicates.

The phrase issue should be fixed in the next version.
