      Regression: Editor for Sections

My members need a full editor for editing sections. Not having this confuses them too much. Especially since they are used to this functionality for VW3.

Only having a basic text field excludes all users, except power users. Which means that 99% of my members cannot use this function and are lost once they try to edit a section.

An image upload function is also needed.

Is there a way to turn off section editing until this is resolved?

This will not be resolved. Enabling the full editor in sections increases garbage code and risk of section mismatching.

By the way, the full WYSIWYG editor was never allowed in sections in VaultWiki 3 for the same reason. There was still a toolbar allowing for BB-Codes, but no WYSIWYG functionality.

VaultWiki 4 functions the same way. But XenForo's stock editor does not provide a toolbar when WYSIWYG is disabled. This is simply a difference in behavior between stock vBulletin and stock XenForo. There is nothing we can do about it.

Please go to my live site:
      /showwiki.php?title=Blog&do=edit&section=3

This shows a full vb editor.

The result of not having an editor is that the user (if he doesn't know how to edit code) enters a dead end. This turns the entire section editing functionality into non-usable. Because users dont know how to edit sections without an editor and expect different behavior.

One of the main differences in behavior is that xenforo has a image upload function at the bottom.

I might be mistaken about the behavior of VaultWiki 3, but if it offered WYSIWYG mode, then it was a bug, because of the same issues I cited in my original response. It should have only provided the standard BB-Code editor.

See here for the correct VaultWiki 4 + vBulletin 4 behavior: https://www.vaultwiki.org/demo/TOC-N...edit&section=2
Only the BB-Code editor is available.

XenForo does not have a BB-Code editor. When you specify that WYSIWYG is unavailable, it shows only a regular text box. That is an issue with XenForo itself. Again, it cannot be resolved by VaultWiki.

If you want a way to disable section editing, I can look into a toggle for the next release.

Yes, please add a setting to disable section editing. Unfortunately without a WYSIWYG editor and image upload it has no purpose.
For now I will just hide the CSS class.

I can understand that a section editor increases problems, but when it was introduced to VW3 we found it a major upgrade from NuWiki. We have used it for 8 years now and are very happy with it.

There is a toggle for this in the next release:

Options > VaultWiki: Miscellaneous > Enable Editing of Individual Sections within Wiki Pages?
Rather than editing an entire wiki page at once, you can edit only the text below each heading within a wiki page. To prevent issues when markup spans multiple headings, not all headings are eligible and WYSIWYG editor mode is disabled for section edits.
