      Make Redirect on Rename Optional

Normally, if you rename an existing article, VaultWiki will leave a dummy article of the old name behind. The dummy article redirects to the new article.

We should add an option in the editor to prevent this from occurring.

Added for the next build. This option only appears if the user has permission to delete the current article.

We are trying to use this feature in cleaning up our Wiki.

Our users frequently make the error of creating article names that are too short and then pop up everywhere as autolinks.

When I, as admin, rename an article and check the box to NOT leave a redirect, it creates a duplicate article and leaves the original article intact. Further, the renamed article has the renamer's name as the article creator, which we would rather did not happen.

I presume that I can just delete the original article that was left behind, but I expected Vault Wiki to do that, so I don't know what actually needs to be done.

This is fairly urgent for us since we are starting to build content.

I am also concerned with a related issue of how the in-line moderation works with respect to moving, renaming, and deleting of wiki articles. It does not appear to work as we expected, but I have not yet documented the behavior.

This particular feature was completed quite a number of months ago.

The behavior you describe (article cloning) was a bug that was fixed 1 or 2 builds ago - http://www.crackedeggstudios.com/issues/605/
It had to do with the title field not being encoded correctly during editing. We have not had this problem since.

We have also been moving a lot of content recently using inline moderation without any issues.

To "deal with" past article cloning, you should treat the original article as the article, and delete the new "renamed" article, then rename to original again. If you had made any changes to the newer article, you may want to keep that one instead or update the old article with the changes.

Our site was up to date through pl1 and I will be installing 2.3.1 this evening.

I will check the behavior again after the update.

When I followed the instructions above with my current install, it deleted all the comments associated with the article. It is possible that I did not follow the sequence correctly. I presume that the ones you have been moving have associated comment streams also.

Having both in-line moderation using the vBulletin tools (check box and drop down) and the delete tab and rename functions in Vault Wiki is a bit confusing. Do they invoke the same underlying code?

My associate and I are having trouble understanding exactly how delete works. We have managed to convince ourselves that only hard deletes are effective. This confusion arises because of the renaming behavior we have seen. Does soft delete clear all links and leave only the hidden content?

The delete/move tabs in VaultWiki invoke the inline moderation code once submitted. They are there for convenience, since there are no "thread tools" on the article tab.

Soft delete doesn't clear anything. It only really changes $threadinfo['visible'], so that only moderators have permission to view it.
